Reaching the desk
Every message to Oton Technology is read by a person. We try to answer within two working days, though a message that asks us to verify something takes as long as the verification takes. If you have not heard back inside a week, send the message again rather than assuming it was ignored, because occasionally one is.
Corrections come first
If you believe something we published is wrong, say so and we will treat it as the priority. The fastest route to a fix is a message that names the article, quotes the passage you are disputing, states what the correct position is and points to something that supports it. That is not a bureaucratic hurdle. It is simply the shortest path between your message and a corrected page, because it lets us verify rather than investigate from scratch.
We do not require you to be an expert, and we do not require you to be polite. We do require the claim to be checkable. Once a correction is confirmed it is made and labelled under our Corrections Policy.
Story tips
We are interested in things that can be shown rather than only asserted: a document, a changelog, a filing, a screenshot with context, a support thread, a advisory that has not been picked up. Tell us what you have, how you came by it and whether you are willing to be named. We would rather know early that a source wishes to stay anonymous than discover it late.
We will not publish material that we cannot verify independently, and we will not name a source who asked not to be named. If you are sending something from a work account, consider whether that is wise for you before you do it.
Press and companies
Announcements are welcome and are read, though we cannot reply to all of them and an embargo we did not agree to in advance does not bind us. We do not accept payment for coverage and we do not offer guaranteed placement. If you are writing about advertising, the advertising page explains how that is handled and where the line sits between commercial arrangements and editorial work.
Legal and privacy
Copyright complaints are handled under our DMCA and Copyright process, which sets out what a valid notice needs to contain. Requests about personal data are handled under the Privacy Policy and should state which right you are exercising so we can deal with it properly.
