Privacy Policy

Last updated: [May 3, 2026]

This Privacy Policy explains how Oton Technology collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit https://otontechnology.com or interact with the site in any other way.

The short version, in plain English: Oton Technology is a tech news site, not a data broker. Some information is collected to keep the site running, show ads, and improve articles. None of it is sold. You have real rights over your data, and this page explains exactly what those rights are and how to use them.

If anything below is unclear, email support@otontechnology.com and a real human (Logan) will respond.

Who Runs This Site

Oton Technology is an independent tech publication founded and operated by Logan Pierce. It is run as a solo project from Denver, Colorado, United States.

For privacy related questions, the data controller for this site is:

Logan Pierce Oton Technology Denver, Colorado, United States support@otontechnology.com

What This Policy Covers

This policy applies to:

  • The website at https://otontechnology.com and all of its subdomains
  • Any newsletters, RSS feeds, or email communications sent by Oton Technology
  • Comments, contact forms, and other submissions made through the site
  • Interactions with Oton Technology on social platforms, where this policy applies in addition to those platforms’ own policies

It does not cover third party websites linked from articles. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and Oton Technology has no control over how they handle data.

Information Collected Automatically

Like nearly every modern website, Oton Technology collects some information automatically when you visit. This is standard for any site that wants to load fast, stay secure, and not break.

Information collected automatically includes:

  • IP address (often shortened or anonymized for analytics)
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system and device type
  • Screen size and resolution
  • Referring website or search engine
  • Pages visited, time spent, and click patterns
  • Approximate location based on IP address, usually at the city or region level
  • Date and time of visit

This information is used to keep the site running, prevent abuse, understand which articles readers find useful, and improve site speed. It is not used to identify any individual reader by name.

Information You Provide Directly

Some information is only collected when you choose to share it. This includes:

When you leave a comment: Your name (or chosen display name), email address, website (if entered), comment content, IP address, and browser user agent. The IP and user agent are stored to help fight spam and moderate abusive comments.

When you contact the site: Your name, email address, and the content of your message. Contact form submissions may include any other details you choose to share.

When you subscribe to a newsletter: Your email address, plus optional details like first name if the signup form asks for it.

When you submit a story tip or correction: Whatever information you include, which may be anonymous if you prefer.

When you apply to advertise or partner: Business name, contact name, work email, and any commercial details you share.

You are never required to give a real name to read articles. The only time identifying information is required is when you actively choose to comment, subscribe, or write in.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help websites remember things between visits. Oton Technology uses cookies for the following purposes:

Strictly necessary cookies. These keep the site working. They handle things like remembering whether you have already accepted the cookie banner, keeping forms from breaking, and protecting against spam. The site cannot function properly without these.

Performance and analytics cookies. These measure how readers use the site, which articles get the most attention, and where readers come from. The data is aggregated, not tied to individuals by name.

Advertising cookies. These are set by ad networks and help show relevant ads. They may track visits across other sites that use the same ad networks.

Functional cookies. These remember your preferences, such as dark mode if the site offers it, or whether you have dismissed a notification.

You can control cookies through your browser settings or through the cookie banner shown on your first visit. Blocking some cookies may break parts of the site, especially comment forms and embedded videos.

A more detailed breakdown is on the Cookie Policy page.

Third Party Services Used

Oton Technology relies on a small set of well known third party services to operate. Each of these has its own privacy policy. The main ones are:

Google Analytics or a privacy friendly analytics tool, used to understand site traffic in aggregate. IP anonymization is enabled where supported.

Google AdSense, Mediavine, Raptive, Ezoic, or similar ad networks, used to display ads. These networks may set cookies and use device identifiers to show relevant ads. You can opt out of personalized ads through https://www.aboutads.info/choices and https://www.youronlinechoices.com.

Affiliate networks, including Amazon Associates and similar programs. When you click an affiliate link, a cookie is set by the merchant so the sale can be attributed back to Oton Technology. Details are on the Disclaimer page.

Email service providers, such as MailerLite, ConvertKit, Substack, or Mailchimp, used to send newsletters. Your email is stored on their servers and is governed by their privacy policies.

Web hosting and CDN providers, such as Cloudflare and the site’s hosting company, which may log IP addresses for security purposes.

Social media platforms, when content is embedded (for example, an embedded YouTube video or X post). These embeds may set cookies even if you do not click them.

Comment system, which may be the default WordPress system or a third party tool such as Disqus.

A current and complete list of processors is available on request through support@otontechnology.com.

Legal Basis for Processing (For Readers in the EU and UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR give you specific rights. Oton Technology relies on the following legal bases for processing your data:

  • Consent, for things like newsletter subscriptions, non essential cookies, and personalized ads. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interest, for things like fraud prevention, basic site analytics, and keeping the site secure.
  • Contract, when you are interacting in a business capacity, such as an advertising or partnership agreement.
  • Legal obligation, when the law requires data to be retained or shared.

Your Rights Over Your Data

You have real, enforceable rights over the personal information Oton Technology holds about you. These include:

  • The right to know what data is held about you
  • The right to request a copy of that data
  • The right to correct inaccurate information
  • The right to delete your data (the “right to be forgotten”)
  • The right to restrict or object to certain types of processing
  • The right to data portability, where applicable
  • The right to opt out of personalized advertising
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time
  • The right to file a complaint with a data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, email support@otontechnology.com with the request and enough information to verify your identity. Requests are answered within 30 days, sooner where possible. There is no charge for reasonable requests.

Rights for California Residents (CCPA and CPRA)

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act give you additional rights, including:

  • The right to know what categories of personal information are collected and why
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information
  • The right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information
  • The right to limit the use of sensitive personal information
  • The right to not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights

Oton Technology does not sell personal information in the traditional sense. However, the use of advertising cookies may qualify as “sharing” under California law. To opt out, use the cookie banner controls or email support@otontechnology.com.

Children’s Privacy

Oton Technology is a general audience tech publication and is not directed at children under 13. The site does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in some EU countries).

If a parent or guardian believes a child has submitted personal information, please contact support@otontechnology.com and the information will be deleted promptly.

How Long Data Is Kept

Different types of data are kept for different lengths of time, based on what they are used for:

  • Comments: Kept indefinitely unless you request deletion, since they form part of the public conversation on an article.
  • Contact form messages: Typically kept for up to 24 months, then deleted unless still relevant to an ongoing matter.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: Kept for as long as you remain subscribed, plus a short period after unsubscribing for record keeping.
  • Analytics data: Kept in aggregated form for up to 26 months in most analytics tools.
  • Server logs: Kept for a short rolling window, typically 30 to 90 days, for security purposes.
  • Affiliate referral data: Held by the affiliate networks themselves, governed by their own retention periods.

When data is no longer needed, it is deleted, anonymized, or moved into secure backups that are eventually overwritten.

How Data Is Protected

Oton Technology takes reasonable steps to keep your information safe. These include:

  • HTTPS encryption across the entire site
  • Strong password practices and two factor authentication on admin accounts
  • Hosting with reputable providers that offer industry standard security
  • Regular software and plugin updates
  • Spam filtering on comments and contact forms
  • Limited access to user data, restricted to Logan and any future trusted contributors operating under the same standards

No site can promise perfect security. If a data breach ever affects your information, Oton Technology will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law, with details about what happened, what data was involved, and what to do next.

International Data Transfers

Oton Technology operates from the United States, and many of the third party services used are also based in the United States or use global infrastructure. If you are outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries.

Where required, transfers are protected through standard contractual clauses, adequacy decisions, or other lawful mechanisms approved by the relevant data protection authorities.

Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. There is no industry agreed standard for how websites should respond to this signal. Oton Technology currently treats DNT signals as a general preference for limited tracking, alongside any choices made through the cookie banner.

Links to Other Sites

Articles on Oton Technology often link to product pages, news sources, official company sites, and other publications. Once you click an outbound link, this Privacy Policy no longer applies. Those sites set their own cookies, collect their own data, and are governed by their own policies. Reading those policies before sharing personal information is always a good idea.

Affiliate Links and Sponsored Content

Some links on the site are affiliate links, which means Oton Technology may earn a small commission if you click and make a purchase. The price you pay does not change.

Affiliate clicks may pass certain information, such as your IP address and referral source, to the merchant for tracking purposes. Sponsored articles, when published, are clearly labeled and follow the same disclosure standards as the rest of the site. Full details are on the Disclaimer page.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

The privacy landscape changes constantly, and this policy will be updated when needed. When updates happen, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be changed. Significant changes (anything that affects how data is collected, shared, or used) will be flagged with a clear notice on the homepage or by email to newsletter subscribers, where appropriate.

Continuing to use the site after a policy update means you accept the updated terms.

A Final Note

The internet runs on data. Every site you visit collects something, and most of them hide that fact behind walls of unreadable legal text. This page is meant to be the opposite, clear about what is collected, why it is collected, and what you can do about it.

If something here can be made clearer, faster, or more privacy friendly, the inbox is open. support@otontechnology.com goes straight to a real person.
