GTA 6 DualSense Controllers Follow Sony’s Usual $84.99 Script

PlayStation will sell two GTA 6 DualSense controllers at $84.99, with the black pad locked to Direct and no console bundle attached.

PlayStation priced two limited Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense controllers at $84.99, with pre-orders opening September 10 and shipments tied to the game on November 19. The September 3 State of Play showed the pads and did not show a matching console bundle.

That is the same DualSense collab Sony already uses for other big releases: a dark Direct-only SKU, a lighter retail SKU, and a paint job that costs $10.99 more than the pad that ships with a PS5.

Two Pads, One Vice City Finish

Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, posted the reveal with Rockstar on the PlayStation Blog, calling the hardware a first look at two limited-edition DualSense wireless controllers built around Vice City’s day and night looks.

The black and white limited-edition DualSense wireless controllers each capture the essence of Vice City, from bright days along the coast to vibrant city nights. Both editions feature a shimmering, color-shifting finish that brings together the hues of a Vice City sunset and the glow of neon lights.

Both pads carry palm-tree details molded into the grips, official Grand Theft Auto VI marks, and a large VI on the touch pad. The white model is framed as daybreak, white sand, and pastel sky. The black model is framed as nightlife. Sony’s own copy also points to a color-shift finish that reads as sunset and neon on the same shell.

DESIGN NOTES

  • White Limited Edition: Daytime Vice City, sold on PlayStation Direct and at some retailers, in limited stock.
  • Black Limited Edition: Nighttime Vice City, Direct-only where Direct operates, with select retailers only in other regions.
  • Shared details: Molded palm-tree grips, VI on the touch pad, Grand Theft Auto marks on the back, color-shifting lower shell.

The names on the blog are DualSense Wireless Controller, Grand Theft Auto VI Black Limited Edition, and the matching White Limited Edition. They are not DualSense Edge units. Sony’s DualSense Edge wireless controller is the separate pro pad with extra rear buttons and swap sticks, and it did not get a GTA 6 shell in this drop.

The Black Edition Is Locked to PlayStation Direct

The channel split is the part that will decide who actually gets which color. White is the wider SKU. Black is the one Sony is holding on its own store in the countries where that store runs.

WHERE EACH PAD WILL SELL

Pad Theme PlayStation Direct Other shops
White Limited Edition Daybreak, sand, pastel sky Yes, limited stock Yes, some retailers worldwide
Black Limited Edition Nightlife Yes, limited stock Only in regions without Direct, via select shops

Direct is live in ten markets named in the blog footnote: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, and Austria. Portugal is told to use playstation.com/store/hardware instead. In those Direct countries the black pad does not go to the usual shelf.

Both colors still share one price: $84.99 in the United States, ¥12,480 including tax in Japan, €84.99 in the euro zone, and £74.99 in the United Kingdom. Sony says stock is limited and does not publish a unit cap, which is how these collabs usually go out the door.

Sony Has Run This DualSense Script Before

The GTA 6 pair is not a new hardware class. It is the collab DualSense Sony has been minting all generation, at the same $84.99 ticket, with the same 10:00 a.m. local pre-order clock on Direct.

Last fall’s God of War 20th Anniversary DualSense used that exact price and the same Direct-plus-retailer window. Pre-orders for that pad opened October 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. local time, and it launched October 23. Tomatis bylined that post too. The GTA 6 clock is a copy with new art: September 10 at 10:00 a.m. local, then a ship date on the game’s own day.

Sony has also used Direct as a lockbox for darker colorways on other limited DualSense runs this generation, while the lighter or gold versions went wider. The GTA 6 black pad is that lockbox again. Collectors who want the night version are being steered onto Sony’s site, where launch-day delivery is promised only for eligible Direct pre-orders.

That script only works because a standard DualSense already does the work Sony wants to advertise. The limited shell is the SKU. The haptics are not new.

How GTA 6 Uses the DualSense You Already Own

Mary Yee, Sony’s senior vice president of marketing, spent June 24 making that point in a joint post with Rockstar. Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5, she wrote, because the DualSense, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and the console’s SSD are part of the pitch, not because a special pad is required.

PS5 TOUCHES NAMED IN JUNE

  • Haptic feedback: Vibration tuned to action, with Yee describing “responsive vibrations” in Jason and Lucia’s story.
  • Adaptive triggers: Changing resistance in the triggers as you play.
  • Built-in speaker: Extra sound on key moments, often mixed with the haptics.
  • Tempest 3D AudioTech: Positioned sound across Leonida, including Vice City streets.
  • SSD loads: Near-instant travel across the map, per the same post.

Those features run on any DualSense. The limited pads do not add a sixth trick. They put palm trees in your hands while the same motors fire. Yee’s June post also pointed people toward a PS5 or PS5 Pro at Direct and at local shops, which is the closest Sony came to a hardware push, and it still was not a GTA 6 bundle.

Game pre-orders on PlayStation Store opened June 25. Buys before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Store pre-orders also include a redeemable free month of GTA+. That is not tied to the new controllers.

The Showcase Left the Console Bundle Out

September 3 was a fat showcase, two State of Play broadcasts stacked, with Sony counting news on more than 30 games. The DualSense pair landed in that pile as merch, not as a console SKU. A GTA 6 bundle would have been the easy partner for a pad reveal. It did not appear in the recap Gillen McAllister posted on the PlayStation Blog, and it did not appear in the controller post.

The official PlayStation account put the trailer out the same day, with the November 19 date in the caption and a link back to the blog.

The second-order read is simple. Five and a half years into PS5, Sony does not need GTA 6 to move boxes the way a launch window would. It needs GTA 6 to make DualSense feel like the reason to be on PlayStation, then it needs a $84.99 object that looks like Vice City when the streams start. The pad in the box already carries the haptics. The limited pad carries the photo.

WHAT WE KNOW

  • The SKUs: One white pad and one black pad, both DualSense, both $84.99, both dated November 19.
  • The Direct lock: Black is Direct-only in the ten Direct countries; white also goes to some retailers.
  • The bundle: No GTA 6 console bundle was announced with the pads.

WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED

  • How many: Sony has not published a production number for either color.
  • Restocks: There is no promise of a second wave after the first allocation sells.
  • A later bundle: A PS5 kit with the game could still appear; nothing in the September 3 posts confirms one.

The $84.99 ask is also why the trailer landed as a wallet test. The palm-tree mold is the only tactile extra. The rest is color and a second DualSense on the coffee table. Anyone who already owns a pad is being asked to buy the look, not a new set of motors.

Pre-Orders Open September 10 at 7 a.m. PT

The Direct window is staggered by region and starts a week after the showcase. Sony is also promising free launch-day delivery on eligible Direct pre-orders, which is the carrot for sitting in that queue rather than waiting for a shop that may never see the black pad.

THE SALE CLOCK

  1. June 24, 2026: Sony and Rockstar publish the “plays best on PS5” DualSense pitch.
  2. June 25, 2026: Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders open on PlayStation Store at midnight local time.
  3. September 3, 2026: State of Play shows the two limited DualSense designs.
  4. September 10, 2026: Controller pre-orders open at 7:00 a.m. PT and 10:00 a.m. ET in the U.S., and at 10:00 a.m. local time in the U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
  5. November 19, 2026: Both pads launch, on the same day as Grand Theft Auto VI on PS5.

That is a 70-day wait from the pre-order bell to a pad in the box. The game itself has been on pre-order since June 25, so the controller is a late add-on, not the thing that starts the queue. People who want both colors will pay $84.99 twice, and they will do it on a store that Sony can throttle by account and by region.

Direct’s U.S. listing for a normal DualSense is the other number that matters. The same store that will take the GTA 6 pre-order already lists a standard DualSense at $74, in white, with the usual pitch that the pad works on PS5, PC, Mac, and phones. The limited pair is $10.99 above that line.

$84.99 Buys the Finish, Not a New Pad

THE PRICE STACK

  • Limited GTA 6 DualSense: $84.99 each, white or black, ships November 19.
  • Stock DualSense on Direct: $74, same haptics and triggers, no palm-tree grips.
  • The gap: $10.99 for the Vice City shell and the Direct-only black color.

Grand Theft Auto has been on PlayStation since 1997, and Sony is still using the pad as the brand handshake. The limited DualSense is how that handshake looks in 2026: a color-shift shell, a Direct queue, and a November 19 box that arrives with the game rather than with a new console. If a bundle was coming with this announcement, it would have been in the same blog post. It was not. The black pad goes up on Direct on September 10 at 7:00 a.m. PT, and that is the hardware GTA 6 is selling until Sony says otherwise.
