Write For Us
Last updated: [May 3, 2026]
Oton Technology is open to working with tech writers who care about clear, honest writing and know their subject matter. This page explains what kind of contributions are accepted, what is not, and how to pitch a story that has a real chance of being published.
Read the whole page before pitching. Most rejected pitches fail because they ignore something covered here.
Who This Page Is For
This page is for:
- Experienced tech writers and journalists looking for a new outlet
- Industry professionals (developers, security researchers, product designers, IT specialists) with first hand expertise to share
- Reviewers, testers, and analysts with real, verifiable experience
- Independent bloggers who can demonstrate consistent, original tech writing
This page is not for:
- SEO agencies offering “guest posts” on behalf of clients
- Anyone selling link placements, link insertions, or sponsored backlinks
- Writers who use AI to generate full articles
- Anyone whose primary goal is a backlink rather than a published story
If you fit the first list, keep reading. If you fit the second list, please do not waste either of our time.
What Oton Technology Publishes
Oton Technology covers consumer technology with a focus on real world use, not press release recaps. The strongest pitches fit one of these categories:
- Hands on reviews of phones, laptops, accessories, smart home devices, or software
- How to guides that solve a clear problem readers actually have
- In depth explainers on AI tools, privacy software, or emerging tech
- Industry analysis backed by data, sources, or first hand experience
- Comparisons between products that readers genuinely struggle to choose between
- Long form features on tech industry trends, companies, or people
Coverage areas in detail are listed on the About page. Pitches that fall outside these areas are rejected without a reply.
What Oton Technology Does Not Publish
To save time on both sides, here are the categories that are never accepted:
- General “top 10 productivity tips” posts that could appear on any blog
- Listicles padded with affiliate links and no real testing
- Crypto, NFT, gambling, or token related promotions
- Adult content, pirated software guides, or anything illegal
- Articles aimed at promoting a specific company, product, or service
- Generic “what is” or “definition of” articles
- Repurposed content from your own blog or other publications
- Articles with thin research, vague advice, or recycled spec sheets
- AI generated articles, even if lightly edited
- Press releases dressed up as articles
If you have to wonder whether a pitch fits, it probably does not.
Editorial Standards for Contributors
All contributors operate under the same standards as the founder. The full list is on the Editorial Policy page. The summary:
- Hands on testing for any review claim
- Original reporting, not rewrites of someone else’s article
- Clear sourcing for every fact, with links where possible
- Honest assessments, including negatives where they exist
- No paid placements, sponsored links, or commercial favors
- Disclosure of any conflict of interest, real or perceived
Contributors who break these standards do not get a second story.
What Makes a Strong Pitch
A strong pitch tells the editor three things in under 200 words:
- What the article is about, in one clear sentence
- Why it matters to Oton Technology readers right now
- Why you are the right person to write it
A weak pitch sends a generic email with three vague topic ideas and asks if any are a fit. Those are skipped.
A strong pitch reads like the start of an article. The editor should be able to picture the finished piece by the end of the email.
Pitch Format
Send your pitch by email to support@otontechnology.com with the subject line:
Pitch: [Your Article Title]
Inside the email, include:
- A clear working title
- A one paragraph summary of the angle and why it matters
- A short outline of the main sections or arguments
- Your sources, including any first hand testing or interviews
- Two or three links to your previously published work
- A short bio (one or two sentences) and your areas of expertise
- Estimated word count and a realistic delivery timeline
Attachments are not required. A clear, well written email is the best signal that you can write a clear, well written article.
What Happens After You Pitch
Pitches are reviewed personally by Logan Pierce, founder and editor of Oton Technology. The process is straightforward:
- Pitches are read in the order they arrive.
- Replies usually go out within 2 to 3 business days. Pitches that fit current coverage gaps are answered faster.
- If a pitch is accepted, you will receive a brief email with notes on angle, length, and deadline.
- If a pitch is rejected, you may receive a short reply or no reply at all. No reply within two weeks should be treated as a pass.
- Resubmitting the same pitch with minor changes, or chasing repeatedly, does not help.
Most pitches are rejected. That is normal for any publication with editorial standards, and it is not a reflection on you as a writer.
Original Content Only
Every article published on Oton Technology must be original to the site. That means:
- The article has not been published anywhere else before
- The article will not be republished on your own site, Medium, LinkedIn, or any other platform after publication
- The article was not generated by AI, or even substantially drafted by AI
A short summary may be shared on your social channels with a link back to the full article on Oton Technology. Cross posting the full article is not allowed.
If a piece is later found to be plagiarized, AI generated, or previously published, it will be removed and the contributor will not be invited back.
Article Length and Style
Article length depends on the topic, but most published pieces fall into these ranges:
- News stories: 400 to 800 words
- How to guides: 1,000 to 2,000 words
- Reviews: 1,200 to 2,500 words
- In depth features: 2,000 to 4,000 words
Style guidelines:
- Write like you are explaining the topic to a smart friend
- Avoid jargon where plain language works
- Use short paragraphs and clear subheadings
- Skip the press release voice and the AI assistant voice
- Cite sources inline with links
- Add real examples, screenshots, or photos where helpful
A short style guide will be shared with you if your pitch is accepted.
Editing Process
Accepted articles go through a real editing pass. Edits may include:
- Tightening the headline and intro
- Cutting filler and fluff
- Restructuring sections for clarity
- Fact checking key claims and sources
- Adjusting tone to match the site
- Adding internal links to related articles
You will see the edits before publication and have a chance to flag anything that looks off. The final call on publishing rests with the editor, but contributor input matters.
Bylines and Author Profiles
Contributors get a real byline and a dedicated author profile on the site. The profile includes:
- Your name and headshot
- A short bio
- Links to your social profiles, personal site, or portfolio
- A list of your articles on Oton Technology
Bylines are non negotiable. Articles are never published under another name to manipulate authority signals or hide who actually wrote them.
Compensation
Oton Technology is a small, independent publication. Compensation depends on the type of article, level of expertise required, and current site revenue.
Current state, in plain English:
- Most pitches are accepted on an unpaid byline basis. The benefit is a real byline on a growing tech publication, plus a permanent author profile.
- Paid contributions are offered selectively for in depth features, original reporting, or expert analysis where the topic justifies a budget.
- Rates are discussed privately when a pitch is accepted on a paid basis. There is no public rate card.
- Payment is sent within 30 days of publication for paid articles.
If compensation is essential for you, mention it in your pitch. That helps avoid wasted time on either side.
Backlinks and Self Promotion
This is where most guest post pitches fall apart. The rules here are simple:
- Author bios may include one link to your personal site, portfolio, or main social profile.
- Within articles, outbound links are allowed only when they support the writing, point to high quality sources, and follow the Editorial Policy.
- Links to your own products, employer, or affiliates are not allowed inside articles.
- Pitches that exist mainly to place a link are rejected immediately.
- Requests to add or change links after publication are denied.
If your goal is a link, this is not the right publication. If your goal is published work that real readers will read and share, you are in the right place.
Rights and Republishing
When an article is published on Oton Technology, the site holds first publication rights and an ongoing license to keep the article live, edit it for accuracy, and update it over time.
You retain the underlying ownership of your work. You can:
- Reference the article in your portfolio
- Quote short excerpts (under 100 words) elsewhere with credit and a link back
- Promote the article on your own channels with a link to the original
You cannot:
- Republish the full article anywhere else, online or offline
- License the article to another publication
- Resell or syndicate the article without written permission
If you ever need a custom rights arrangement (for example, you write for a corporate blog and need clearance), mention it in your pitch.
Use of AI in Contributions
AI tools are part of the modern writing workflow, and that is fine within limits. AI may be used for:
- Spelling, grammar, and style checks
- Brainstorming structure or angles
- Summarizing source material during research
AI may not be used for:
- Generating full articles or significant sections
- Producing fake quotes, fake sources, or fake statistics
- Creating images that misrepresent products or events
Articles that read like AI generated content are rejected, even if the writer claims it was self written. The bar is simple. If a reader can tell, the article does not get published.
What Counts as a Successful Contribution
A contribution is considered successful when:
- The article is original, accurate, and well sourced
- The writing has a clear voice and adds something readers cannot get from a press release
- Edits and changes are handled professionally
- Deadlines are respected
- Disclosures are honest
Contributors who deliver consistently on these points are invited back, often with paid opportunities as the site grows.
What Disqualifies a Contributor for Future Work
The following will end the working relationship:
- Plagiarism, including AI generated text passed off as original
- Hidden conflicts of interest, including undisclosed payments from companies covered
- Repeat factual errors or sloppy sourcing
- Pressure to add backlinks, change conclusions, or favor a brand
- Republishing accepted articles elsewhere without permission
- Unprofessional or abusive behavior in communication
Most contributors will never come close to any of this. The list exists for the rare case when it matters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept guest posts from SEO agencies?
No. SEO agency pitches, link insertion requests, and “guest posts on behalf of a client” are filtered out before they reach the inbox.
Will you exchange links?
No. Reciprocal linking, link exchanges, and “we link to you, you link to us” arrangements are not done on this site.
Can I include affiliate links?
No. Affiliate links inside articles are managed by Oton Technology, not by contributors. Outbound links from contributor articles must serve the reader, not a commission.
Do you accept previously published articles?
No. All contributions must be original to Oton Technology.
How long until I hear back?
Most pitches receive a reply within 7 to 10 business days. No reply within two weeks should be treated as a pass.
Can I pitch a series instead of a single article?
Yes, if the topic justifies it. Be clear in your pitch that it is a series, with a brief outline of each part.
How to Pitch
When you are ready to pitch, email support@otontechnology.com with the subject line:
Pitch: [Your Article Title]
Follow the format laid out earlier on this page. Pitches that ignore the format are reviewed last, if at all.
A real person reads every pitch that follows the rules.
A Final Note
The guest post landscape online is mostly noise. This page exists to attract the small number of writers who care about real tech writing and to filter out the rest.
If that sounds like you, the inbox is open. support@otontechnology.com is the only address that matters.
