The Pixel 11 Pro Fold Sells Years, Not Graphics

Google started selling the Pixel 11 Pro Fold in India on August 20, 2026, at ₹1,86,999 for a single 16 GB and 512 GB model. The 8-inch Super Actua Flex panel is the spec every launch list led with.

Google’s product pages put the weight on a tougher hinge, IP68 sealing, and seven years of Android 17 updates. That is a long-life pitch on a foldable whose battery is smaller than last year’s and whose Tensor G6 chip still trails rival graphics parts.

Google Made the Fold Tougher and Shrunk the Cell

That line sits next to a new glass-fiber composite back Google says is designed to be nearly impossible to crack, a gearless hinge that shields the inner panel, and a Super Actua cover made of ceramic glass. Both screens peak at 3,600 nits, which Google says is 20% brighter than last year. The company also claims three times more durable than last year in internal tests on pre-production units, with a larger hinge bend radius and a thicker glass layer on the inner display to ease the crease.

The catch lives in the same blog post. Last year’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold used a 5,015 mAh cell. This one holds 4,806 mAh, about 4% less, a 209 mAh cut Google accepted to slim the body. Google still rates the Fold at more than 24 hours. The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL are rated at more than 30 hours. Plug-in speed is 30W wired, with about 50% in 30 minutes on a 45W USB-C brick that is sold separately, and up to 25W Qi2.2 Pixelsnap wireless, which Google says is 20% faster than the last Fold.

People who have lived with the phone say a mixed day of cover-screen use still reaches bedtime. A day spent on the inner panel, camera and games does not. A full wired top-up has been timed around 80 minutes in one hands-on, which is a long sit for a phone that costs this much. Google’s own comparison table is frank about the family split: the Pixel 11 Pro XL can hit about 75% in 30 minutes. The Fold stops at about 50%.

One India SKU, Priced Against Samsung

India gets one configuration. The Google Store lists the Pixel 11 Pro Fold for ₹1,86,999 in Olive, with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB of Zoned UFS storage. Global buyers can pick 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB, all with 16 GB RAM, from $1,899 (about ₹1,86,999 at the India list) for the 256 GB model. Obsidian exists worldwide. India does not get it on the phone itself.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold opened in India at ₹1,72,999 for 256 GB, so the new price is ₹14,000 higher with twice the storage. Samsung’s India newsroom put the competing book foldables on sale after a July 22, 2026 launch, and the Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at ₹1,79,999 for 12 GB and 256 GB.

INDIA BOOK-FOLD PRICES AT LAUNCH

On the 512 GB shelf, Google is ₹13,000 below Samsung and throws in 16 GB of RAM against 12 GB. The Ultra starts at ₹1,99,999 for 12 GB and 256 GB and climbs to ₹2,59,999 for 16 GB and 1 TB. Spec sheets at Samsung’s launch listed IP48 on the Ultra. Google’s Fold is IP68. That gap is the cleanest hardware win Google can print, and it is why the durability copy exists.

Why Tensor G6 Still Trails in Graphics

Tensor G6 is the same custom chip as the rest of the Pixel 11 line, paired here with 16 GB of RAM and Google’s Titan M3 security coprocessor. Peng Yu-chun, Google’s VP of Hardware, said the die is built on TSMC’s 3nm process, the same node family as Tensor G5. A 2nm rumor that ran into August did not survive launch week.

Google’s published chip claims are CPU and AI, not GPU bragging rights: 15% quicker app launches, 25% faster web browsing, 50% more TPU compute, and up to 30% better CPU power efficiency than Tensor G5. The Fold’s CPU is a 7-core layout with one ARM C1-Ultra core at 4.1 GHz, four C1-Pro cores at 3.4 GHz and two C1-Pro cores at 2.65 GHz, plus a PowerVR graphics block. Everyday apps feel fine. Games do not get the same courtesy.

Graphics tests have put Tensor G6 behind last year’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold in a 3DMark Wild Life Extreme stress run, and behind current Snapdragon foldables by a wide margin in games, around 30% slower in general and closer to 50% in gaming in one full review. An early Genshin Impact glitch on review units needed a software fix. Heat, the old Tensor complaint, is less of a story this time. The chip is held back on purpose so the thin shell does not cook the hinge, which is why the frame-rate gap remains.

Buyers who fold a phone open for work still get 16 GB of RAM, split-screen, drag-and-drop, Instant View and app bubbles parked on the inner panel. Buyers who fold it open for games are paying flagship money for last-wave graphics.

271,000 Pre-Orders Went to Samsung First

Samsung’s India newsroom said the Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 took 271,000 pre-orders in 72 hours after the July 22 launch, with 45% of those orders coming from tier-2 cities and smaller. Last year the company needed 15 days to reach a similar number on the previous Z pair. Google has not published a matching Fold figure for August.

That volume gap is the market the Pixel is walking into, not a hypothetical. Samsung already has the eighth-generation hinge, faster 45W wired charging on the regular Fold8, silicon-carbon cells on that line, and DeX. Google is asking Indian buyers to pay near-Ultra money for Pixel software, a 5x telephoto, Pixelsnap magnets and a dust-tight seal.

The Fold is the heavy one in this fight. Published specs put it at 239 g, 5 mm unfolded and 10.1 mm folded, at 155.2 x 150.4 x 5 mm open and 155.2 x 76 x 10.1 mm shut. Samsung’s Ultra is listed around 215 g and 8.9 mm folded. Closed in a pocket, the Pixel still reads as a small tablet. Open, it is a near-square 8-inch sheet, taller in the hand than Samsung’s wide book.

Google Exclusive walk-in centres in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore are open seven days a week, which is how the company wants this ₹1,86,999 phone sold: in person, with a hinge demo, not as a silent add-to-cart next to a cheaper Fold8.

The Inner Screen Still Shows a Crease

The inner Super Actua Flex is an 8.0-inch LTPO OLED at 2076 x 2152 pixels and 372 ppi, 1 Hz to 120 Hz, HDR, with a plastic fold surface over ultra-thin glass. The cover is a 6.5-inch OLED at 1080 x 2342, a 19.5:9 slab that is usable as a normal phone. Peak brightness on both is 3,600 nits, with about 2,000 nits in high brightness mode.

The crease is still there. It shows up off-axis and in dark mode, and it is the detail owners keep photographing. Google says the new hinge’s larger bend radius and thicker inner glass improve crease performance. Hands-on notes still call it obvious. That is the trade for an 8-inch 1:1 canvas. Widescreen video leaves fat black bars. Some games render extra vertical space the PowerVR block then has to push.

The camera bar now carries HiLight, an LED ring around the flash that glows in set colours for favourite contacts and in patterns while Gemini listens, thinks or talks. It is the one new object on the back you can explain in a shop. The rear trio is a 48 MP wide at f/1.7 with OIS on a 1/1.56-inch sensor, a 10.5 MP ultrawide at f/2.2 with a 127-degree view and macro, and a 10.8 MP telephoto at f/3.1 with 5x optical zoom and 30x Super Zoom. Inner and cover each get a 10 MP selfie camera.

That is a class below the Pixel 11 Pro’s 50 MP plus dual 48 MP setup, and it is the complaint that keeps coming back from people who already like Pixel photos. Daylight shots stay well exposed in the usual Pixel way. Portraits, hair edges, the ultrawide and low light are where the smaller sensors show. The inner screen is also the better stage for a feature Google built with the Deaf community: sign American Sign Language to the front camera and the translation can appear on the cover display, so a conversation can face both ways.

Android Support Runs Through 2033

Seven years of Android upgrades, security patches and Pixel Drops, counted from Android 17 in 2026, runs the software clock through 2033. That is the same promise as the slab Pixel 11 phones, now attached to a hinge, two batteries in one shell, and an inner panel with a plastic fold. Google’s own IP68 footnote says dust and water resistance are not permanent and can fade with wear, repair or damage, and that liquid damage voids the warranty.

The first Fold ran hot because Tensor G2 sat in a thin split chassis. Google later called thermals the number one reason Pixel phones came back. G6 is cooler because it is held in check, which is how you get a 239 g foldable that does not scald a palm and still loses a 3DMark run to last year’s model.
