Tecno Camon Slim 5G Repeats Artist Colors on New 5G Hardware

Tecno unveiled the Camon Slim 5G on Sept. 7, 2026, a 6.39 mm phone with Mondrian, Matisse, and Van Gogh backs and a 6,000 mAh battery. The painters are the pitch.

Two of them already sat on the 4G Camon Slim that launched 77 days earlier. The 5G model keeps that 6.39 mm shell, swaps in a radio and a larger Sony sensor, and clips a 1.73-inch AMOLED badge on the back.

Mondrian and Van Gogh Already Shipped in June

On June 22, 2026, Tecno put a 6.39 mm Camon Slim on sale as a handheld art object, with a photochromic Mondrian back, a Van Gogh Blue panel that mimics The Starry Night, and Burgundy Red fiberglass. That phone ran a Helio G200 and 5,600 mAh battery, charged at 60W, and sealed to IP69 and IP68. It also carried a 354-LED mood light with 55 scenes between the rear lenses, a trick the 5G model does not repeat.

The September phone is the same thickness and the same three painter cues, plus two new tints. What moved is the silicon, the main sensor, the charge rate, the seal, and a magnetic accessory. A pretty mid-ranger on a 4G Helio left the chip as the weak point in a year when Apple and Samsung made thinness a flagship flex; the 5G SKU is Tecno answering that gap without commissioning new art.

JUNE 4G VS SEPTEMBER 5G

Prism Black and Jungle Green, the crystal-cut backs from June, are gone. Matisse Black and Rebel Pink take their slots. Pricing for both phones is still a local-market promise, so the 5G model is a spec bump you cannot yet price against its twin.

A 6,000 mAh Battery in a 6.39 mm Phone

Tecno’s Sept. 7 statement puts a 6,000 mAh five-year durability cell in the 6.39 mm body and calls it enough for a full day. The 4G sibling’s official sheet listed 5,600 mAh, so the 5G pack is 400 mAh larger. Charge speed falls the other way, from 60W to 45W.

That trade is the point of this chassis. Flagship thin phones spent 2025 and early 2026 shrinking the cell to hit 5.6 mm to 6.0 mm. Tecno stays 0.75 mm thicker than Apple’s iPhone Air and keeps almost double the battery. The body is 162.58 x 77.27 x 6.39 mm, with a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED running at 144Hz, 1208 x 2644 pixels, and 2160Hz PWM dimming.

The screen carries TUV Rheinland low blue light certification. Wet and Oily Hand Touch Recognition 2.0, Rain Touch, and Waterproof Case Touch are Tecno’s names for using the panel with wet fingers or a waterproof case over it. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sit in the same slab. The port is USB Type-C 2.0.

Thinner Flagships Cut the Cell

The Camon Slim 5G is not the thinnest phone you can buy. It is one of the few thin phones that still quotes a 6,000 mAh pack. Apple’s iPhone Air is 5.64 mm with a 3,149 mAh cell and IP68. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is 5.8 mm with 3,900 mAh. Motorola’s Edge 70 is 5.99 mm and carries an IP69 rating. Tecno’s own Spark Slim has been listed at 5.93 mm.

THINNESS AGAINST BATTERY SIZE

Against the Air, Tecno is 0.75 mm thicker and about 90% larger on the cell. That is the mid-range counter to a year of luxury slivers. The seal is stacked higher too: IP69K, IP69, IP68, and IP66 on the same body, plus MIL-STD-810H. IP68 here is listed as 2 meters for 30 minutes. IP69K is the high-pressure jet rating most thin glass phones never print.

Tecno showed the phone at IFA 2026 in Berlin on the same stand as a bezelless concept and a Lamborghini-branded Pova, the hardware that fed the awards Tecno took at IFA 2026. The Camon Slim 5G was the mid-ranger on that table, not the award citation.

Matisse Black, Rebel Pink, and a Photochromic Grid

Tecno lists five colorways for the 5G model. Three recycle June. Two are new. The company still writes as if each back were a first tribute to an art master.

THE FIVE BACKS

• Burgundy Red: Fiberglass and a matte texture that Tecno describes as a velvet mix of red and brown, carried over from June.
• Neo Mondrian: A white photochromic panel that shows Mondrian color blocks under UV light, the same process as the June “New Mondrian” finish.
• Matisse Black: Black fiberglass with a fluorescent green mark, new for 5G, aimed at Henri Matisse cut-outs.
• Van Gogh Blue: A patterned gradient of The Starry Night that is supposed to look as if the sky rotates when the light shifts, also carried over from June.
• Rebel Pink: Pink accents on a black body, new for 5G, with no painter attached.

The Mondrian back is the only finish that changes with the sun. Tecno describes it as a lab process, not a licensed canvas.

Neo Mondrian uses photochromic technology. The panel appears as minimalist pure white in normal conditions. Under ultraviolet light, color blocks gradually emerge and form the Piet Mondrian’s classic grid composition.

Van Gogh Blue uses a gradient coating, not pigment that moves. Hold it under a lamp and the swirl is a print trick. It is still the back most people will photograph first.

The Mag Badge Is a 1.73-Inch Remote

The accessory that did not exist on the June phone is the Tecno Mag Badge, a magnetic puck with its own battery and a 1.73-inch AMOLED, linked over Bluetooth. It is not priced. It is also the only new object in the launch that is not a paint job or a chip swap.

WHAT THE BADGE DOES

• Gallery face: Shows stills on the puck so the phone back can act like a wearable photo.
• Shutter remote: Fires the camera from up to 10 meters away.
• Selfie helper: Previews the shot and switches cameras without flipping the phone.
• Own power: Built-in battery, so the 1.73-inch panel does not drain the 6,000 mAh cell directly.

It is Tecno’s attempt at a clip-on camera kit for a brand that does not own MagSafe. Because the link is Bluetooth, the badge can leave the phone’s back and still trip the shutter. Whether it ships in the box or as a paid extra is unsaid.

Software Handles the 2x Telephoto Snap

The rear cameras are a 50MP main and an 8MP ultrawide. Tecno’s own compare sheet does not list a third lens. The main is a Sony 1/1.56-inch LYTIA 700C sensor at 1.0 µm, f/1.8, 23 mm, with PDAF and OIS. A closed-loop ball motor drives focus. The ultrawide is 8MP, f/2.2, 14 mm, 112°, on a 1/4.0-inch 1.12 µm sensor, with autofocus. Up front is 32MP. The June phone’s LYTIA 600 sat on a 1/2-inch die, so the 5G main sensor is the clear camera upgrade.

Super-Zoom FlashSnap is the software path that covers 2x. Tecno says AI can grab a frame without a shutter press, and that the 2x snap can run at shutter speeds as fast as 1/11236 second. Multi-Focal-Length Portrait offers 24 mm, 35 mm, and 50 mm crops from that 23 mm main. Stabilization is OIS plus AI electric IS plus an AI shutter. Universal Tone is the company’s skin-tone pipeline, reused from earlier Camon phones.

AI Snap Poster still strips a product off its background for small-shop listings. AI LightMaster 2.0 still claims to pull shadows, flares, and reflections out of a still. Those tools live on Tecno’s zero screen. They are the same family of tricks the June phone already shipped.

MediaTek’s 6 nm Chip and Three OS Upgrades

The 5G radio is a MediaTek Dimensity 7300e, a 6 nm chip with four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.5 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz, plus a Mali-G610 MC2 GPU. MediaTek lists up to 8% faster CPU work and 6% better gaming than the prior Dimensity generation, with efficiency gains of 4% in apps, 21% in the modem, and 8% in games. Peak 5G downlink is 3.3 Gbps. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 are on the sheet. The platform’s own charge spec is 45W, which matches the phone.

Memory is 8 GB of RAM with 16 GB advertised as extended, and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage. Software is Android 16 with HiOS 16. Tecno promises three major OS upgrades and five years of security patches, with a TUV SUD mark for 60 months of “sustained fluidity.” Model code CN6. NFC, an infrared blaster, and FM radio are listed on the spec sheet.
