Roblox Ships Games Off Its App and Pays Creators Daily

Roblox will let creators ship games as standalone apps while a new Airwallex wallet pays U.S. adults in dollars every business day.

Roblox will let creators ship games as standalone apps on phones, PCs, and consoles, with Roblox still running underneath. Founder and CEO David Baszucki set that out on Sep 11 at the annual Roblox Developers Conference, next to a creator wallet that pays in U.S. dollars every business day.

The company is 20 years in. The bet now is that a Roblox game does not have to open inside the Roblox app, and that adult makers should be paid like a small business, not like a hobbyist waiting on a monthly cash-out.

Games Can Leave the App Without Leaving Roblox

Baszucki said players spent 29 billion hours across 180 countries in the latest quarter he cited. He called Roblox a cloud operating system for gaming, then put an AI creation layer on top of that stack. The distribution piece has a name: Roblox Everywhere.

The opening keynote from the official Roblox channel runs just over two hours and is the primary tape of the day.

THREE WAYS A ROBLOX GAME REACHES A PLAYER

  • Standalone apps: Creators will soon be able to publish a game as its own app on mobile, PC, and consoles, with Roblox powering the tech and services under it.
  • Chrome links: By the end of 2026, a player can join from a game’s Experience Details page in Chrome, with more browsers later, and with no install.
  • Offline solo: Over the next year, creators can pair a live multiplayer mode with offline solo play; Roblox says that offline path is available by mid-2027, with early access sooner.

A web session can start from search, YouTube, X, email, or a creator’s own channel. The game still sits on Roblox’s engine, hosting, and services. What changes is the front door. A player can keep a title on a home screen and never open the main Roblox app for that session.

Chat is moving with the player too. A Friends tab follows people from game to game, and voice typing is live so a player can talk instead of hunt for a keyboard. Later in 2026, creators can add preset Quick Words, such as “start your engines” in a racing title, after a policy review.

Build Already Published About 9,000 Games

The supply side is the other half of the unbundle. On July 16, Nick Tornow, senior vice president of engine, and Vlad Loktev, chief creator ecosystem officer, said anyone should be able to turn a text prompt into a game inside the Roblox app. Their example prompt was “Let’s make a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest with environmental obstacles.”

The public alpha opened in New Zealand on July 28 for age-checked users 9 and older. Published games that pass safety checks go global for age-checked users 16 and older, and they enter the same retention ranking as titles built in Studio. A base Build tier is free, with paid options for heavy users. Roblox put daily active users at 132 million in that July note.

WHAT BUILD HAS PRODUCED SO FAR

  • Published games: About 9,000 titles through Sep 1, 2026, after the New Zealand alpha.
  • New builders: 71% of the thousands of people who made a game with Build had never used Roblox Studio.
  • Next countries: Public alpha now adds Serbia and Singapore, and every creator at the Sep 11 conference got access.
  • New controls: Desktop access, an asset library, and iterative control, plus early wiring so a Build game can be viewed and managed from the app.

Creators can already pull analytics and add monetization from a phone. Roblox said they will soon be able to launch ads the same way. Scene Generator arrives later in 2026 in both Build and Studio. A creator gives a text prompt and a reference image, gets a working layout, then tightens it in Studio.

Studio is getting agent tools on the same track: a playtesting agent that flags bugs before a player hits them, an analytics agent that answers plain-language questions, and an experiment agent that proposes tests for engagement and spend. Cube, Roblox’s 3D foundation model, already turns prompts into objects that can drive or shoot. Discovery is being split by age, with shorter games pushed toward younger players and longer return-play toward older ones, looking past the first week to the first 28 days.

We’ve built what is effectively a cloud operating system for gaming: the engine, the infrastructure, and the services that let any creator publish instantly, scale to millions of players, and reach anyone on any device.

A Wallet That Pays in Dollars Every Business Day

Since DevEx launched in 2013, creators have earned more than $5 billion on Roblox. In the 12 months through June 30, 2026, that figure was about $1.7 billion. Those are trailing-year totals. In calendar 2025, creators earned over $1.5 billion, up from $923 million in 2024, according to chief business officer Enrico D’Angelo’s Sep 3 economic-impact report, which cites analysis by Nordicity.

Wallet is the cash-flow product built on that pile. Eligible U.S. independent creators 18 and older can opt in for daily USD payouts starting in December. There is no payout request and no monthly cooldown. Cleared earnings land in the Wallet every business day. A creator can send money to a bank on their own schedule, or leave it there.

Payment services for U.S. customers run through Airwallex US, LLC, a licensed money transmitter (NMLS 1928093). License and complaint details sit on the Airwallex US money-transmitter licenses page. Identity checks, two-factor login, and tax forms are required. Roblox says funds paid into a Wallet are generally realized earnings, and tax documents show up in Creator Hub. That is not tax advice, and the company says so.

HOW CREATORS GET PAID NOW AND NEXT

Rule DevEx Roblox Wallet
When money moves Creator request, monthly cooldown Automatic, every business day after holds clear
What you hold Robux, then cash out U.S. dollars in the Wallet
Hold on new sales Existing DevEx timing Up to thirty days, then usable or transferable
Who is first Current DevEx creators U.S. 18+ sole proprietors, opt-in, from December 2026
Buying Robux after cash-out Retail Robux prices $0.0038 per Robux ($38 for 10,000; $114 for 30,000, plus tax)

The buyback rate is the point of the $0.0038 figure. A creator who has already been paid in dollars can fund ads, tests, and publishing fees without buying Robux back at the consumer price. Wallet funds can also buy ads directly. Roblox Card, due in 2027 in select markets, spends only the Wallet balance. It is not a credit card and carries no loan.

If an account is moderated, money already in the Wallet stays reachable, with instructions by email. A permanent ban can close the Wallet, and Roblox says the creator will get a chance to move funds to an outside account. Pending earnings can still be held or forfeited if terms are broken, as with DevEx. That is the live risk on a product that turns Robux into dollars sitting in a licensed account.

DevEx Ends in the U.S. by Mid-2027

Wallet does not kill DevEx on day one. Roblox will keep DevEx in the U.S. through mid-2027, then end it there once Wallet is in place. Other regions keep DevEx longer. Each new region gets a published end date after Wallet is live. Old Robux stays eligible for DevEx after a Wallet opens; future creator payments switch to dollars.

THE PAYOUT AND PLAY CALENDAR

  1. July 16, 2026: Roblox announces Build as a mobile tab that turns a prompt into a starter game.
  2. July 28, 2026: New Zealand public alpha opens for age-checked users 9 and older.
  3. September 1, 2026: About 9,000 Build games are on the record, and 71% of those makers had never opened Studio.
  4. September 11, 2026: RDC adds Serbia and Singapore, standalone apps, Chrome play, Wallet, and the Card plan.
  5. October 2026: Turn-based notifications enter Studio Beta; Moments lets players tap an avatar in a clip to buy the item shown.
  6. December 2026: Wallet invites start for eligible U.S. 18+ independent creators.
  7. End of 2026: Chrome web player ships; turn-based notices go to full release; Scene Generator is due in the same window.
  8. 2027: Roblox Card, group wallets, 13+ access with parental consent, and international payouts, including local currency.
  9. Mid-2027: DevEx ends in the U.S.; offline solo play is listed as available.

Groups keep earning in Robux until group wallets arrive. They can still split Robux with collaborators. A collaborator who already has a Wallet gets dollars at the going DevEx rate; everyone else still gets Robux.

Who Still Earns in Robux, and for How Long

The first Wallet class is narrow on purpose. It is U.S. adults, working as sole proprietors, who apply and pass checks. Everyone else stays on Robux for now. That includes groups, studios, creators under 18, and every region outside the U.S.

D’Angelo’s report is the reminder that most of this economy is still one person at a laptop. Of surveyed U.S. creators, 83% operate as individuals rather than studios. Over 42,000 people are in DevEx, and the median payout for the 12 months ended June 30, 2026, was about $1,500. U.S. creators’ GDP impact in 2025 was $752 million, up 69% from 2024, Nordicity found.

Henry Hollyday, a North Carolina creator who taught himself in Studio and runs HD Games, said Roblox “opened the door for me to start making games and earning a living from them.” Wallet is built for that kind of operator: daily cash, exportable transaction logs, buyer-level purchase records, and a card in 2027 that works anywhere the network is accepted.

It is also built slowly enough that a 16-year-old who can already publish a Build game cannot open the bank product. Parental-consent wallets for creators 13 and older are a 2027 item, not a December one. The prompt tool and the checking account are on different clocks, on purpose.

The Engine Now Ships 2D and Offline Modes

For years the typical Roblox hit was a 3D multiplayer world. Baszucki said some of the most-played games anywhere are 2D and puzzle titles, and that Roblox had not fully opened that lane. The engine now gets an orthographic camera, animated image containers, and direct sprite-sheet import. UI picks up blur, text shadows, and better gradients.

Turn-based and async games get a notification when it is your move, in Studio Beta in October and in full release by the end of 2026. Moments, the clip feed that sends a viewer into a game, is fully on in the United States. Later in September, videos from a game’s details page start showing up there. In October, a tap on any avatar in a clip can sell the item or background on screen. Build games are due to play inside that tab in the coming months.

Taken together, that is an engine brief, not a lobby refresh. A 2D puzzle that works on a train, a browser round started from a YouTube link, and a console icon that never mentions the Roblox app still settle on the same servers, the same ranking, and the same money pipes.

Kids Can Prompt a Game at Age 9

Build’s New Zealand rules still govern the new countries unless Roblox says otherwise: age-checked 9 and older to create, 16 and older to play a published Build game, plus the same extended review that every catalog title already gets. Tornow and Loktev wrote that discovery is meant to bury games nobody plays, including thin AI output. Ranking still runs on retention.

Off-app play does not retire those checks. Standalone apps and Chrome sessions still run on Roblox services, so age gates, chat tools, and identity systems travel with the game. That is the same stack that added a facial recognition child-safety rollout earlier in 2026 after a $12 million Nevada settlement. Quick Words are reviewed before they go into a match. Wallet identity checks are heavier still, because the output is dollars.

The open operational question is the same one creators already ask about DevEx, now with a bank account attached. Account theft on Roblox is common. A Wallet that can move dollars to a bank is a better target than a Robux balance. Roblox’s written answer is 2FA, holds of up to thirty days, and a path to pull funds if the account is shut down. Whether that holds up in a real hijack is a 2027 problem, not a keynote slide.

Wallet invites start in December for U.S. adults who apply. The card, group accounts, and a 13-and-up version with parental consent sit on the 2027 list. Until then, most of those 42,000 DevEx creators still cash out the old way, in Robux, on a monthly cooldown, while the games they ship start showing up as their own apps.
