Bitcoin Left $63,000 While WLD and WLFI Stalled
Bitcoin ran from a $63,000 wrap to $77,313 in 27 days, while Worldcoin and World Liberty Financial, that day’s leaders, failed to lead the month.
Bitcoin closed at $77,313 on September 13, 27 days after a market wrap had it near $63,000. Worldcoin (WLD) and World Liberty Financial (WLFI) were that day’s named leaders. They did not lead the month that followed.
Worldcoin finished the stretch at $0.3920, a 14.4% gain that still left it under 50 cents. WLFI finished at $0.05747, down 5.3% from its August 17 close, after tagging a cycle low of $0.04847 on September 11. The tape that looked risk-off around $63,000 paid Bitcoin. It did not pay the two tokens the wrap had singled out.
Bitcoin Left $63,000 in 27 Days
The August 17 note, written while Bitcoin still sat under a 50-day exponential moving average near $64,306, asked whether the $63,000 area would hold. Immediate support was the July 6 low at $61,307. A August wrap that had Bitcoin near $63,000 treated that floor as the live question. It was the wrong question within hours.
Bitcoin opened August 17 at $62,884 and closed at $64,525, up 2.61% on the day, with a high of $64,578. The $63,000 print was a morning level, not the close. From that close to September 13, the move was 19.8%.
AUGUST 17 CLOSE VS SEPTEMBER 13
| Asset | August 17 close | September 13 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | $64,525 | $77,313 | +19.8% |
| Worldcoin (WLD) | $0.3426 | $0.3920 | +14.4% |
| World Liberty Financial (WLFI) | $0.0607 | $0.05747 | -5.3% |
The break higher was not a grind. August 19 closed at $69,326, up 7.12%. August 20 added 5.34% to $73,026. August 21 jumped 7.27% to $78,334, with a high of $79,306. By September 3, Bitcoin had printed $82,178.6, then slipped back into the high $70,000s.
That path also sits well above a head-and-shoulders break that tested $60,000 earlier in the same bearish tape. The 52-week range still runs from $57,832.5 to $126,186.0, so $77,313 is a recovery, not a new cycle high. The alternative.me Crypto Fear and Greed Index, which read 31 on August 17, sat at 61 on September 13.
Worldcoin Closed Red on Its Leader Day
The same wrap said Worldcoin was extending a short-term recovery above a 50-day average near $0.3605, with the 200-day still overhead at $0.4284 and a 50% retracement at $0.4048 as the next cap. Momentum looked constructive, with RSI near 59.
CoinMarketCap’s daily print for August 17 does not match that midday tone. WLD opened at $0.3551, touched $0.3688, and closed at $0.3426, under the $0.3605 average the wrap had just called support. Volume was about $186 million. Market cap at the close was about $1.23 billion. The “leader” session ended as a down day.
World, the project formerly called Worldcoin, still sells a biometric World ID through Orb devices built by Tools for Humanity. Sam Altman chairs that effort. Alex Blania is chief executive. The token is the float around that identity network, not a claim on OpenAI, and an earlier Worldcoin sale by Arthur Hayes already showed how fast that float can be dumped when a proxy bet breaks.
On September 13 the Worldcoin market cap and supply showed a $1.4 billion cap, 3.59 billion tokens circulating against a 10 billion total, and a price of $0.3920. That is 14.4% above the August 17 close. It is also 96.67% below the March 9, 2024 all-time high of $11.82, and 72.63% above the May 17, 2026 low of $0.2279.
Buyers Took WLD to 48 Cents, Then Sold
The only stretch that looked like the wrap’s “extend the gains” case arrived in early September, not in mid-August. WLD closed September 7 at $0.4789 after a high of $0.4793. That print cleared the $0.4048 retracement the August note had flagged, and it poked at the $0.4284 longer average.
It did not stay there. September 8 closed at $0.4530. September 9 closed at $0.4154. By September 12 the token was back near $0.4001. September 13’s $0.3920 print sat back under both the 50% retracement and the old 200-day level from the wrap.
Traders who framed the $0.478 to $0.481 band as resistance were describing the same rejection. Volume on that spike was heavy, then the bid stepped away. A 14.4% net gain over 27 days is real. It is also a round trip through 48 cents that left Worldcoin as a lagging satellite of the Bitcoin move, not a leader of it.
A Fresh Low for World Liberty Financial
WLFI had the cleaner “leader” claim on August 17. It had just jumped about 11% the prior week, held above $0.0500, and sat over a 50-day average at $0.0567 after breaking a downtrend line at $0.0541. RSI near 69 and a rising MACD were the bull case. The 200-day at $0.0840 was the longer cap. Next resistance sat at $0.0638 and $0.0763.
The August 17 close was $0.0607. None of those upside levels became a new base. On September 13, WLFI price and supply figures put the token at $0.05747, a $1.82 billion market cap, a $5.74 billion fully diluted value, and 31.77 billion tokens circulating against a 100 billion max supply. Rank: 42.
WLFI LEVELS THAT ACTUALLY PRINTED
- August 17 close: $0.0607, the wrap’s “leader” snapshot after the prior week’s 11% jump.
- September 11 low: $0.04847, listed as the cycle’s all-time low, two days before the $77,313 Bitcoin close.
- September 13 print: $0.05747, up 18.3% off that low and still 5.3% below the August 17 close.
- Old upside markers: $0.0638 and $0.0763 never became support; the September 1, 2025 high of $0.46 remains 87.54% overhead.
The bounce off $0.04847 only returned the token to the same $0.056 to $0.058 band the wrap had already treated as constructive. Levered books still showed more long liquidations stacked under $0.057 than shorts above it, which is a market that pays dunks, not breakouts. WLFI has a habit of lifting only after it has already dumped, then stalling in the same few cents.
The OCC Letter Covers USD1 Issuance
The token’s dull month sat next to a federal letter the August wrap did not price. On August 14, 2026, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued Corporate Decision 1385, a preliminary conditional approval letter for World Liberty Trust Company, National Association, to organize as a national trust bank in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida.
The OCC has granted preliminary conditional approval only. Final approval and authorization pursuant to 12 USC 27(a) for the Bank to commence business will not be granted until all preopening requirements are met.
Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Corporate Decision 1385, August 14, 2026
The proposed bank would be a wholly owned subsidiary of WLTC Holdings LLC. It would not be a retail deposit shop. The letter lists dollar-backed stablecoin issuance and redemption, reserve upkeep in a nonfiduciary role, digital-asset custody as a fiduciary, and conversion services for custody clients.
WHAT THE LETTER SAYS THE BANK WOULD DO
- USD1 issuance: Issue the dollar-backed USD1 token to institutional clients nationwide, taking that role from BitGo Bank and Trust, the current exclusive issuer and custodian.
- Reserves and custody: Hold the assets that back USD1, and offer digital-asset custody, mainly to USD1 customers and other institutions.
- Shared owners: USD1 is a core product of World Liberty Financial LLC, which the OCC said shares indirect common owners with the proposed bank.
- GENIUS Act: The letter treats payment-stablecoin issuance as allowed for an uninsured national trust bank under that statute, and it requires the bank’s stablecoin work to conform to it.
Four commenters filed seven comments. They argued about the OCC’s chartering power, the public file, and whether a stablecoin is a deposit. The agency said stablecoins are not deposits under the Federal Deposit Insurance Act, a point Congress wrote into the GENIUS Act. StringZ Holdings RSC (DE) LLC, DT Marks SC LLC, and AMGUS, LLC gave passivity commitments dated July 13, 2026, on their indirect stakes. Until final approval, the OCC can modify, suspend, or rescind the letter.
That is a charter path for a stablecoin, not a catalyst the WLFI chart respected. Coinbase’s Trump family DeFi platform description still frames WLFI as the governance token of a 2024 DeFi project tied to the Trump family, with a pitch to put the dollar into digital finance. CoinMarketCap labels it the official project backed by Donald J. Trump. USD1 is the dollar token. WLFI is the vote token. The letter is about the first.
Governance Tokens Lagged the Bitcoin Rally
Put the month in order, and the wrap’s two “leaders” look like a one-session screen, not a regime.
THE 27 DAYS AFTER THE $63,000 WRAP
- August 14, 2026: The OCC issues preliminary conditional approval for World Liberty Trust Company to organize in Bay Harbor Islands.
- August 17, 2026: A market wrap has Bitcoin near $63,000 (close $64,525), names WLD and WLFI as 24-hour leaders, and asks if those gains can extend. WLD closes at $0.3426. WLFI closes at $0.0607. Fear and Greed on alternative.me sits at 31.
- August 19 to 21, 2026: Bitcoin runs through $69,326, $73,026, and $78,334 in three sessions.
- September 3, 2026: Bitcoin prints $82,178.6, the high of the stretch.
- September 7, 2026: WLD closes at $0.4789, then loses the breakout over the next week.
- September 11, 2026: WLFI prints $0.04847, a new cycle low, while Bitcoin’s session still holds the mid-$70,000s.
- September 13, 2026: Bitcoin closes at $77,313. WLD is at $0.3920. WLFI is at $0.05747. Fear and Greed is at 61.
The people who needed the governance tokens to keep leading did not get that tape. Bitcoin took the 19.8% from the August 17 close. Worldcoin’s net 14.4% came only after a failed trip to 48 cents. WLFI’s holders spent the OCC week making a new low, then crawling back to the same $0.057 area the wrap had already logged as support.
Insiders in a project like this get paid from token sales, stablecoin float, and, if the trust bank ever opens, the USD1 book. Holders of WLFI get a vote token with 68.23 billion still unissued against the 100 billion cap. Holders of WLD get a 3.59 billion float against 10 billion, still 96.67% below the 2024 high. Those supplies do not shrink because a morning wrap called them leaders.
Bitcoin at $77,313 has already answered the $63,000 question. The remaining open items sit with the other two names: whether Worldcoin can live above the $0.40s without another spike-and-fade, and whether World Liberty Trust Company ever receives final approval to take USD1 off BitGo. The August 17 leaders have not been the ones doing the leading.
