Hands-on notes from August 2026 still call day-to-day use smooth. The naming does the opposite job. The S on this phone, and on the Dimensity 9500s inside it, reads as a refresh. The spec sheet reads as a cheaper bill of materials sold at the flagship’s Singapore number.

The S on This Chip Is a Step Down

The Find X9 ships with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500, the 3nm flagship with a 4.21GHz C1-Ultra prime core. The Find X9s switches to the Dimensity 9500s, a later SKU that is not a faster one. MediaTek puts a Cortex-X925 prime core at 3.73GHz on the 9500s, then three Cortex-X4 cores at 3.3GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4GHz.

The 9500 uses TSMC’s N3P node, a 16MB L3 cache and Arm’s G1-Ultra graphics. The 9500s uses N3E, a 12MB L3 cache and an Immortalis-G925 GPU at 1,612MHz. Oppo’s X9s sheet lists that GPU as a 12-core part. Independent AnTuTu listings put the Find X9 around 3,568,720 and the Find X9s around 2,952,827, about 17% lower on the newer badge.

That line is about stamina, not about beating the 9500. The X9s can feel fast in a pocket. It does not outrun the phone whose name it borrowed.

A Smaller Sensor Behind the Same Triple 50MP Badge

Both phones wear three 50MP cameras and Hasselblad colour work. The main module is not the same. The Find X9 uses Sony’s LYT-808, a 1/1.4-inch sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and a 7-element lens. The Find X9s uses Sony’s LYT-700, a 1/1.56-inch sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 6-element lens, plus 2-axis OIS.

Oppo’s own X9 sheet still lists a 2MP monochrome camera at f/2.4. That camera is gone on the X9s. A colour spectrum sensor remains on both spec lists. The X9s also keeps laser autofocus. The light-gathering cut is the one you feel after sunset, when the smaller sensor and the tighter aperture have less to work with and mixed street lighting starts to smear white balance.

The matching pieces are the 50MP ultrawide at f/2.0 with a 120-degree field of view and the 50MP 3x periscope at f/2.6, built around Sony’s LYT-600. In good light, the X9s still turns out clean files with calm skin and a useful 3x portrait. Food shots can look a little crunchy. Busy backgrounds make edge detection less tidy once the mono camera is out of the stack.

Video is where the sheet quietly shrinks. The Find X9 records 4K at 120fps on the rear cameras. The Find X9s stops at 4K 60fps. Front camera hardware is 32MP at f/2.4 on both phones. The X9s front module loses Pro video and zoom-in video, which is a real miss if you record talking-head clips and want exposure control while you hold the phone.

Early testers keep coming back to the same camera holes. The 3x lens has no telemacro, portraits in Master mode look good, and the selfie camera can show a short shutter lag if you swing the phone away too fast. None of that shows up on a store banner that only says triple 50MP.

The shared battery is the one spec Oppo did not cheapen. Both phones use a third-generation silicon-carbon pack rated at 7,025mAh typical and 6,840mAh official, stuffed into a 7.99mm body. Oppo says the chemistry uses 15% silicon and is built to hold over 80% of original capacity after five years of typical use. Weight is 202g on the X9s and 203g on the X9, which is light for that cell.

Charging is where the refresh stops being a refresh. The Find X9 supports 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging on the Find X9 and 10W reverse wireless. The Find X9s lists none of that. Wired speed stays at 80W SuperVOOC, with 55W PPS and 13.5W PD as fallbacks, and the brick in the box still fills the pack in under an hour. You just have to plug it in.

People who live on a desk pad will feel that on day one. People who already carry a cable will not. The other display cut is easier to miss: both phones use a 6.59-inch FHD+ AMOLED at 120Hz with Gorilla Glass 7i, 800 nits typical, 1,800 nits HBM and up to 3,600 nits peak, and neither uses LTPO. High-frequency PWM dimming is listed at 3,840Hz. Bright sun is fine. Adaptive low-power refresh is not part of the deal.

Water ratings stay serious. The X9s carries IP66, IP68 and IP69, so rain, a sink drop and high-pressure jets are in spec. Stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, an infrared blaster, an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader and eSIM all remain. Bluetooth actually moves forward, to 6.1 on the X9s from 6.0 on the X9.

Singapore is the awkward market. The Find X9 launched at S$1,299 for the 16GB RAM and 512GB storage model. The Find X9s arrived on June 30, 2026 at the same S$1,299, but Oppo’s global sheet caps it at 12GB of RAM and 80W SuperVOOC only, in 256GB and 512GB sizes. The X9s still makes sense if you want a 202g IP69 phone with a 7,025mAh cell, a flat 6.59-inch screen and Hasselblad portraits, and you already live on a cable. It is a weaker pick if you pay Singapore’s S$1,299 and care about a charging pad, 16GB of RAM, 4K 120fps or the X9’s larger main sensor. Street discounts can flip that math; the official sticker does not.

WHEN THE X9S IS THE RATIONAL PHONE

• You never use a pad: 80W wired charging is still in the box, and the 7,025mAh pack is the same size as the X9’s.
• You want the travel ratings: IP66, IP68 and IP69 plus a 202g body are the point of this chassis.
• Portraits matter more than mixed light: the 3x LYT-600 and Hasselblad skin tones still do that job in daylight.
• The ticket is actually lower: India’s Rs 79,999 start, or any real discount under the X9, is the only price logic that holds.
• You do not need 16GB: 12GB of LPDDR5X with UFS 4.1 is the entire X9s memory map.

Hasselblad Modes Survive the Hardware Cuts

Oppo did not strip the camera app. Master mode, XPAN, long exposure, underwater, dual-view, Hi-Res and Pro video on the rear cameras all remain on the X9s mode list.
