The Samsung Galaxy A08 has appeared on the Google Play Console under model SM-A085F, confirming the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, up to 8 GB of RAM and a 720 × 1600 display while earlier FCC papers point to a larger roughly 6,000 mAh battery. The listing follows Wi-Fi Alliance, BIS and other certifications and puts the entry-level 4G handset on a short runway to launch.

The design language matches the Galaxy A07 4G that arrived in August 2025, including the pill-shaped rear camera housing, though the console image shows a white finish the predecessor lacked. Samsung has kept the same 6 nm octa-core chip that averages about 403,000 points in AnTuTu v10 on Notebookcheck’s database.

Google Play Console Confirms the SM-A085F

According to the Google Play Console listing first reported via The Tech Outlook and covered by Notebookcheck and GSMArena, the Galaxy A08 carries the model number SM-A085F. It pairs the MediaTek MT6789V/CD Helio G99 with approximately 8 GB of RAM and the familiar HD+ resolution of 720 × 1,600 pixels.

The same console appearance also surfaced the Galaxy A07s (SM-A077M) with the identical chip but only 4 GB of RAM, plus the higher-end Galaxy S26 FE. For the A08 the console image shows a vertical dual-camera arrangement inside the pill housing, consistent with FCC schematics.

  • Chipset: MediaTek Helio G99 (4G LTE only)
  • RAM: up to 8 GB
  • Display: 720 × 1,600 pixels
  • Software baseline: Android 17 indicated by Geekbench

These are the same core numbers the A07 4G used. The meaningful change sits in the battery paperwork.

Same Helio G99 Meets a Bigger Cell

FCC documents for models SM-A085M and SM-A085M/DS list a rated battery capacity of 5,830 mAh using the LC-196 cell. That figure is widely expected to be marketed as a 6,000 mAh unit, a clear step up from the A07 4G’s 5,000 mAh pack.

Spec Galaxy A07 4G Galaxy A08 (expected)
Chipset Helio G99 Helio G99
RAM (max) up to 8 GB up to 8 GB
Display 6.7-inch 720×1600 90 Hz 720×1600 (size similar)
Battery (typical) 5,000 mAh ~6,000 mAh
Charging tested 25 W 15 W adapter in FCC
Launch window August 2025 late summer / autumn 2026

The MediaTek Helio G99 4G platform details emphasize power efficiency and HyperEngine gaming features aimed at this exact price band. Keeping the chip holds costs down while the extra capacity targets longer screen-on time for streaming and social apps that dominate usage in emerging markets.

A Geekbench run already showed Android 17 as the out-of-box version, one generation ahead of the A07’s Android 15 / One UI 7 start.

Fifteen-Watt Test Charger Versus Twenty-Five

The FCC filing references Samsung’s EP-T1510 adapter, rated for 15 W. Notebookcheck notes that this does not automatically lock the phone to 15 W charging; the A07 4G supported 25 W Super Fast Charging and the A08 may still accept higher input from a user’s own brick. No charger ships in the box in most regions anyway.

Still, the test figure has raised eyebrows. Chinese rivals in the same sub-$150 segment routinely advertise 30 W or 45 W packs. If the A08 lands with slower peak charging, the larger cell becomes a pure endurance play rather than a convenience upgrade. Daily top-ups would take longer, which matters for users who charge overnight or during short breaks.

The vertical camera layout and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 / 5 GHz) are confirmed. FM radio and the usual LTE bands appear in the paperwork. IP54 dust and splash resistance is a safe bet given the A07’s rating, though not yet spelled out for the new model.

Six Years of Updates Still the Differentiator

Samsung’s strongest card at this price remains software. The Galaxy A07 promised and delivered six major OS upgrades and six years of security updates, a first for the ultra-budget A0x / M0x / F0x tier and a promise that ends around 2031-2032 depending on variant.

Expect the A08 to inherit the same policy. That longevity pitch is rare among sub-Rs 10,000 / sub-$120 phones from Chinese brands that often stop at two or three OS versions. For buyers who keep handsets three-plus years, the Samsung update cadence can outweigh a slightly slower charger or a one-year-old chipset.

One UI 9 (or 9.x based on Android 17) will also bring the latest interface refinements, including features such as the recently completed One UI 9.5 App Lock feature rollout. Switching from an older phone or an iPhone remains straightforward with Samsung’s transfer tools.

  • Six Android version upgrades
  • Six years of monthly or quarterly security patches
  • One UI feature parity closer to mid-range models over time
  • IP54 durability expected to continue

Those points turn a commodity Helio G99 device into something closer to a long-term appliance.

India Listings and the M08 F08 Siblings

The SM-A085F/DS model has cleared Bureau of Indian Standards certification alongside SM-M085F/DS and SM-E085F/DS. Those point to the Galaxy M08 and Galaxy F08, the online- and Flipkart-oriented twins that usually share nearly identical hardware with the A-series counterpart and launch within weeks of each other.

Samsung has leaned hard on this three-name strategy in India, where the company recently pushed its smartphone share to roughly 17.6 percent in one quarterly report, narrowing the gap with Vivo. The A07 4G launched around Rs 8,999-9,999; early speculation puts the A08 near Rs 9,499 for a base 4 GB / 64 GB cut, though 8 GB configurations will sit higher.

White joins the color mix. The A07 offered black, light violet and green. A fresh finish helps the refresh feel new even when the silicon stays put. Side-mounted fingerprint sensors and 50 MP main cameras remain the working assumption until official renders or a teardown appear.

What a Late Summer Launch Would Mean

The A07 4G arrived on 25 August 2025. With Google Play Console, FCC, Wi-Fi Alliance, BIS and NBTC (Thailand) boxes checked, an August or September 2026 window fits the historical pattern. A 5G sibling using a Dimensity chip and the larger 6,000 mAh cell that already appeared on the A07 5G could follow months later, just as it did this year.

Crowd reaction on X has been muted so far, mostly tipster shares from accounts such as 91mobiles and The Tech Outlook. The sharper undercurrent, visible in posts that question value after possible price bumps, is that the same Helio G99 and a potentially softer charging curve leave the door open for Chinese packs that pair comparable batteries with fresher silicon or faster bricks. Samsung’s answer remains the update promise and brand trust.

In the wider budget aisle the A08 will sit near devices like the OnePlus budget N6x with headphone jack, which trades different priorities (jack, colorways) for its own value claim. Buyers moving from older iPhones can still use the latest Samsung Smart Switch iPhone transfer tools to bring photos, chats and apps across without friction.

If Samsung prices the A08 aggressively and keeps the full 25 W charging and six-year support intact, the extra battery capacity becomes a quiet win for all-day users who simply want a Galaxy that lasts. If the price creeps up or peak charging drops, the conversation shifts to whether software longevity alone still closes the sale against louder rivals. The next 30 to 60 days of regional leaks and a formal launch event will settle it.
