Sonic Pico Park Locks November 12 on Five Platforms
A former Sega coder’s indie studio landed Sonic’s first outside license, and Sonic Pico Park now has a November 12 date on five platforms.
November 12 is now the date. TECOPARK will ship Sonic Pico Park on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, and PC, the studio said after Nintendo’s September 9 Direct.
Sega has never licensed Sonic to an indie team before. The same SKU is also the first PICO PARK game on PlayStation, and Tokyo Game Show gets the first Japanese playtest on September 19 through 21.
Sonic Pico Park Locks November 12 Across Five Platforms
TECOPARK’s English post listed the launch as November 12, 2026 (PST). The Japanese Sonic account the same day named Steam, Switch, and Switch 2, and the studio’s date trailer filled in PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series so the day-and-date set covers every current living console plus PC.
That is a long walk from June 5, when a Summer Game Fest sizzle only proved the crossover existed. Steam went up as app 4304060 with no day attached. Sony put the game on PlayStation in August and said online play would cross platforms. Nintendo’s Direct then froze the calendar, and the Steam store listing is the PC storefront for the same build.
Two to eight people can play locally or online, and every stage is built to work at any of those counts. On PC, up to seven people on one machine can join an online session together, a LAN-style trick the series has used before and is carrying into the Sonic SKU. The store page lists 14 languages and asks for Windows 11 or macOS Sonoma (Apple M1 or Intel) at minimum. The price is still blank.
HOW THE SERIES MOVES ONTO NEW HARDWARE
| Item | Sonic Pico Park | Original PICO PARK |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, PC | Switch and Steam |
| Players | 2 to 8, local or online | 2 to 8 |
| Cross-play | Yes | Not supported |
| Sonic kit | Spin Dash, rings, loops, springs | None |
PICO PARK Inc. publishes. TECOPARK develops. Sega’s name on the credit is the license, not a Sega internal studio stamp, and the official English product page still frames the game as the latest PICO PARK entry first and a Sonic cameo second.
PlayStation Is New Ground for the Series
Earlier PICO PARK games lived on Steam, Switch, and later Xbox. PlayStation was the hole. Sonic Pico Park closes it on day one, which is the practical prize inside the license: a Tokyo indie party game riding a Sega mascot onto a platform the series could not reach on its own cat.
Cross-play is the other first. The original PICO PARK still lacks cross-play, and that gap is printed on its own product page. Friends on Switch 2 and PS5 can sit in the same Sonic session without arguing about who owns which box, which is the whole reason an eight-player puzzle game either lives or dies after launch.
Switch 2 is in the same boat as PS5: new hardware, same November 12 SKU, no separate window. TECOPARK is not staggering this one.
The Director Who Spent 15 Years at Sega
Shunsuke Miyake, who runs TECOPARK and directs the game, did not arrive as a stranger with a pitch deck. He spent 15 years at Sega, then left, made a co-op puzzle by himself, and only later folded that work into a company. PICO PARK Inc. producer Shintaro Shimazu, the publisher’s representative director, used existing Sega ties from promo work and took the idea to Sega president Shuji Utsumi.
The credit reads Licensed by SEGA. Shimazu described that wording, in a June interview at Summer Game Fest Play Days, as Sega handing an indie team the hedgehog and telling them they were free to make the game. Miyake, in Sega’s June collaboration release, put the personal part on the record.
PICO PARK originally started as a game I developed on my own, and I spent 15 years working at SEGA, so I am truly delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with Sonic during such a milestone year!
Shunsuke Miyake, Director, June 2026 press release
He also said the team kept Pico Park as the base and then added Sonic’s moves so the co-op would exist only because of this pairing. That is the stakeholder fact the June trailers buried under rings and loops.
Pico Park Sold 8 Million After a 1,000-Copy Start
Miyake has told this sales history more than once, and the June Sonic materials sit on top of it. The first PC build arrived in 2016. For three years it sold 1,000 copies. Switch in 2019 did not save it. Online play in 2021 did, after streamers piled in, and worldwide sales crossed 1 million around the end of August that year.
He incorporated TECOPARK on August 20, 2021, in Tokyo, once the solo project had become a company problem. Pico Park 2, built with Gemdrops after Miyake decided he would not write another full sequel in C++ alone, launched September 11, 2024 and crossed 1 million copies on March 24, 2025, which happened to be his birthday. By the Sonic announcement the series was over 8 million, with the first game over 6 million and Pico Park 2 over 2 million.
THE ROAD FROM A THOUSAND COPIES
- 2016: Solo PC release; 1,000 copies in three years.
- 2021: Online play, 1 million copies, TECOPARK founded.
- September 11, 2024: Pico Park 2 launches with Gemdrops.
- March 24, 2025: Pico Park 2 crosses 1 million.
- June 5, 2026: Sonic Pico Park shown at Summer Game Fest as Sega’s first indie Sonic license.
- September 9, 2026: November 12 date set across five platforms.
Shimazu has said PICO PARK Inc. exists to push the series toward core players and the United States, with TECOPARK staying on the build. Sonic is that push, dressed as a 35th anniversary gift.
What Iizuka Told the Team to Protect
Takashi Iizuka, Sonic’s series producer, told Miyake’s team not to chase a Sonic game and to make Pico Park instead, after an early prototype leaned too hard on the hedgehog because Miyake still carried Sega-staff reverence. Miyake said he went back to Iizuka several times on what the license allowed, and that rules remained, but the instruction was to keep the chaotic co-op intact.
The win condition is the series’ old one: reach the goal plate on the right. Everyone has to move together or nobody finishes. Miyake’s phrase for the fun is accidents that can be excused, the kind of mistake that starts an argument and then a laugh. His example was Tails using a Spin Dash, clipping Sonic, and sending him into trouble, so one player can yell and the other can claim they were braking.
SONIC MOVES THAT CHANGE THE PUZZLES
- Spin Dash: Every playable character can use it, which is how a puzzle about patience also becomes a puzzle about not bowling your friends.
- Rings, loops, and springs: Stage gimmicks lifted from Sonic, not sticker art on a Pico Park set.
- Tails’ flight: A vertical answer the original cats did not have, used as a co-op tool.
- Knuckles’ glide: Horizontal coverage for gaps that a group otherwise has to solve with bodies.
- Named roster: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, plus Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Pico Cat from the June 24 birthday stream, which still leaves spare chairs in an eight-player session.
Gemdrops is on systems again. Miyake has said Pico Park physics are custom, not stock Unity, and the Sonic build keeps that approach so eight bodies, Spin Dashes, and character skills can share a stage without the floor turning to soup. Communication is the product. He has said the games have no plot, and that the talk after a wipe is the story players take home.
The CrossWorlds Calendar After the Turtles
The June 5 trailer that introduced Sonic Pico Park did not lead with it. Sega opened on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds guest packs, then added the indie crossover as the second beat, which is why the June Summer Game Fest reveal landed as a double announcement rather than a dedicated Pico Park moment.
Coming soon to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds:
– 🐢 TMNT: July 2026
– 👨🦲 Avatar Legends: October 2026
– 🔥 Godzilla
– 🪽 EVANGELION
– ❓ More to come! That's not all! Sonic is speeding into the world of @picoparkgame, stay tuned for more! pic.twitter.com/S5IXfaS5ML

Roger Craig Smith, Sonic’s English voice, was in the Summer Game Fest audience and wrote that it was great hearing fans of those games get so excited when the trailer hit. The shout in the room, and in the replies, went to the kart racer’s guest list as much as to the chibi hedgehog. Evangelion sitting in a Sonic racer still sounds like a joke that shipped.
CROSSWORLDS DLC STILL ON THE CALENDAR
- TMNT Pack: Unlocked July 28, 2026, with Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo in Mutant Mayhem form, plus the Pizzafire Van and a New York City track.
- Avatar Pack: October 2026, with Aang and Katara, plus vehicles, courses, music, and emotes.
- Season Pass: $29.99, and it is how most of those packs are sold.
- Year Two: Six more packs, with Godzilla and Evangelion already named and the rest due later in 2026.
That calendar is the loud Sonic product for people who already bought a racer. Pico Park is the quieter one, and it is also the one that required Sega to lend the IP off campus.
Tokyo Game Show Opens the First Japanese Playtest
TECOPARK is taking Sonic Pico Park to Tokyo Game Show for its first Japanese hands-on on September 19, 20, and 21, and the official account has been running ticket giveaways against those days. The Japanese Sonic account also flagged 10 new merch items for the show, including Sonic Pico Park goods, plus SEGA/Atlus booth stages for the co-op game, CrossWorlds, and a 35th anniversary live set.

November 12 then has to do the rest. Five platforms, cross-play, and a former Sega coder’s party game are the terms Sega actually signed for this anniversary SKU, and the next public proof is a TGS queue before the store pages go live.
