Vivo X Fold 6 Lands at 7,999 Yuan, Not the Leak

Vivo opened the X Fold 6 in China at 7,999 yuan (~$1,175) for 12GB and 256GB.

That is 2,000 yuan under the Weibo box leak that put the same phone at 9,999 yuan before the June 26, 2026 launch. The Vivo X Fold 6 price still rose 1,000 yuan, about 14 percent, over the X Fold 5’s 6,999 yuan floor, which is a hike, just not the one the box photo sold.

A Weibo Box Put the Floor at 9,999 Yuan

On June 23, a photo that was said to be the retail carton listed four China SKUs at 9,999, 10,999, 11,499 and 12,499 yuan. The earlier Weibo box leak of 9,999 yuan treated that ladder as a near 43 percent jump over the X Fold 5, and memory costs were the ready explanation.

Three days later Vivo put a different ladder on stage. The 9,999 yuan figure did not vanish; it became the 16GB/512GB phone, not the door price. Product vice president Huang Tao, speaking after the event, called the Pro-level sticker “sincere” and said he expected sales to rise at least 30 percent versus the previous generation.

What the X Fold 6 Costs in China

The official 12GB and 256GB Blue Hole listing is 7,999 yuan, and the rest of the regular stack steps 1,000 yuan at a time until 16GB and 1TB. Black Gold is a 300 yuan paint-and-trim premium on that top cut. Two “professional imaging” kits bundle the 16GB/1TB phone with Vivo’s clip-on glass.

CHINA STORAGE PRICES AGAINST THE LEAK

Regular colors are Blue Hole, Salt Lake and Polar Night. Black Gold stays on the 16GB/1TB phone. Imaging kits list at 11,999 yuan in Blue Hole and 12,299 yuan in Black Gold, which is where a careless reading of 11,999 as the 1TB phone comes from.

Honor and Oppo Still Charge More for Less Battery

Honor’s Magic V6 opened on March 10, 2026 at 8,999 yuan for 12GB and 256GB, then 9,999, 10,999 and 11,999 yuan as storage climbs. Oppo’s Find N6, out a week later, starts at 9,999 yuan for 12GB and 256GB, then 10,999 and 11,999 yuan. Vivo’s 7,999 yuan door undercuts Honor by 1,000 yuan and Oppo by 2,000 yuan on the same memory cut.

Honor still wins raw cell size on the 1TB Magic V6, and both rivals ship Qualcomm silicon. Vivo is the only one of the three to put a 7,000mAh pack in every cut, and the only one starting with MediaTek. That is the trade the 7,999 yuan ticket is making, not a free lunch on specs.

IDC figures for the first quarter of 2026, posted by Honor global CMO Guan Haitao, had Huawei at 60 percent of China’s foldable market and Honor at 21 percent. Oppo held 6 percent, Vivo 5 percent, Xiaomi 4 percent. Huawei and Honor together are 81 percent; Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi together are 15 percent. A 1,000 yuan gap versus Honor is how a 5 percent brand tries to buy volume without matching HarmonyOS.

Memory Costs Quadrupled. The Sticker Did Not.

Counterpoint Research’s September 3, 2026 tracker found existing smartphone retail prices up about 15 percent so far this year, with new phones 25 percent costlier than last year. Over 40 percent of models took a hike, a first in that dataset. China, a premium-heavy market, was up about 10 percent, with most of the move on new launches. India led at 21 percent.

Memory has become a key driver of smartphone BoM costs, resetting pricing across the industry and leaving OEMs with limited room to absorb higher costs.

TechInsights’ memory tracker has mobile DRAM rising from $140 to $165 on a 96Gb LPDDR5 contract between June and the September iPhone 18 window, with 256GB TLC UFS NAND moving from about $68 to about $82. Counterpoint has also described mobile DRAM and NAND contracts as roughly four times their late-2025 level. Senior analyst Karn Chauhan said new-phone prices are expected to keep rising, with shortages and high component costs still pressing OEM margins.

A 1,000 yuan, about 14 percent lift on a foldable in that climate is Vivo eating a piece of the bill. The leaked 43 percent ladder would have been passing it through. Huang Tao’s 30 percent sales claim is the wager that Chinese buyers notice the difference.

The 7,000mAh Pack and the Clip-On Zeiss Lens

This is Vivo’s first book foldable on MediaTek. The All-Big-Core Dimensity 9500 chipset is a Super Edition Vivo says it co-tuned for a large folding panel, with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. OriginOS 6 Fold on Android 16 adds Atomic Workbench: a serial layout with one main view and four side tasks, and a parallel mode that holds four live apps, each with its own volume.

The optional Zeiss G2 teleconverter, sold at 999 yuan or inside the imaging kits, is the first clip-on 200mm glass Vivo has put on a foldable. Testers who liked last year’s X Fold 5 keep coming back to that lens, the 1,000mAh battery jump and the four-app desk as the reasons to pay the extra 1,000 yuan, as long as the phone does not pick up a second hike on the way out of China.

Crease talk has already left the China price behind. In late July, Ice Universe posted a four-phone crease clip of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Fold 8, Oppo Find N6 and X Fold 6, and argued Samsung’s new hinge recovered overnight. Replies pointed out a days-old Fold 8 cannot prove long-term wear. That is the argument people who already own a foldable are having. The 7,999 yuan ticket is not.

Replacing the Inner Screen Costs 3,780 Yuan

Two days after launch Vivo published spare-part prices. The inner-screen assembly is 3,780 yuan, which is almost half the base phone. A first in-warranty-style repair of that part is listed at 75 percent, or 2,835 yuan. Out of warranty, parts plus 50 yuan labor apply, and several parts in one visit still draw one labor charge.

Europe May Yet Pay the Leaked Number

Vivo’s line after launch was short: there will be a global launch of the X Fold 6, and detailed availability is not confirmed. The company has since shown the phone to Android Authority as a yes, still without a market list. Prior X Fold “global” windows meant India and parts of Southeast Asia, not the United States, and Vivo has paused UK retail.

Leaker Roland Quandt has the European 12GB/512GB cut at €2,199. That is Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra money, not 8,999 yuan money. India’s BIS file and the UAE’s TDRA list use model V2559. Early listings also point to Android 17 on the export software, against Android 16 in China.
