The WEMIX token began trading on Kraken on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, with a USD pair, opening spot access to U.S., Canadian, U.K. and Australian users for the first time. The activation is the most concrete answer yet to South Korean game studio WEMADE’s promise, after its second delisting by Korea’s biggest exchanges, to “actively pursue various initiatives, including additional listings on global exchanges.” WEMADE made that pledge the day the Digital Asset Exchange Alliance pulled the token from Korean order books in mid-2025.

The Western venue is the first material step in a much larger repositioning. Twelve months on, WEMADE has filed an antitrust complaint against the alliance that delisted it, watched its former CEO win a court acquittal, and begun building a Korean-won stablecoin network aimed at the same Western capital pool that the Kraken listing now taps. If the Korean legal route stays shut, the listing becomes the longest remaining line to U.S. and U.K. liquidity. The Kraken slot prices the work WEMADE has done over the past year, from the antitrust complaint to the StableNet launch, in dollars against a U.S. compliance posture the company spent two years locked out of inside Korea.

The Listing, on the Exchange’s Own Terms

Kraken confirmed the activation on its own listings-page announcement of WEMIX trading: “WEMIX trading is live as of July 7, 2026.” Funding through the WEMIX/USD pair opened the same day, with spot trading available as deposits cleared, the exchange said. Users were told to fund only via supported networks, with deposits on other networks warned to be lost. WEMADE also released a press statement that framed the Western access for retail and institutional users in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia. Both pieces of disclosure put WEMADE CEO Shane Kim in the lead of the formal narrative.

Kraken’s standard staged-rollout pattern applies. Trading through the exchange’s Instant Buy product and mobile app will go live only “once the liquidity conditions are met,” the exchange said, a phrase it uses whenever initial depth is still thin. Outside those gated products, users can already deposit WEMIX and place spot orders through the Kraken website.

WEMADE positioned the slot as the first major Western exchange to clear WEMIX for trading after the second Korean removal. CEO Shane Kim, who is also a vice president at WEMADE, said the partnership reflected a focus on compliance reputation and the breadth of the exchange’s customer base. Kim’s official statement on the listing put the U.S. compliance market front and center. The release did not, however, announce any companion listing on the Korean venues that delisted WEMIX in mid-2025.

The Stack WEMADE Built Around the WEMIX Token

WEMIX is the native token of WEMIX3.0, a Layer-1 blockchain that Kraken’s listing page describes as supporting “game economies and NFT marketplaces to staking, and decentralized finance.” The chain runs on a staking-based Proof-of-Authority consensus and is built to be EVM-compatible, so Ethereum-based tooling can be ported over directly. WEMIX3.0 is operated by WEMIX Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of WEMADE.

WEMIX3.0 sits inside a stack that goes well beyond gaming. WEMADE recently launched StableNet, which the company’s press statement that framed the Western access also describes as Korea’s first dedicated Layer-1 blockchain for Korean-won-backed stablecoins. WEMADE also put together the Global Alliance for KRW Stablecoin (GAKS), a working group whose infrastructure partners include Chainlink, Chainalysis and CertiK. That alliance is, in WEMADE’s framing, the keystone of its pivot into the broader KRW stablecoin push the company is now chasing. WEMADE’s stablecoin bet lands the company inside the same contest shaping the U.S. and EU stablecoin markets in 2026.

WEMADE’s gaming roots remain the consumer-facing pitch. The studio’s catalogue of flagship titles underpins the chain’s game-economy positioning:

  • MIR4, the play-to-earn MMORPG that was the studio’s blockchain proving ground
  • NIGHT CROWS, the more recent global MMORPG
  • The Legend of Mir, the franchise that long predated the blockchain pivot
  • Legend of YMIR, the latest pre-launch title

The token’s role inside that catalogue, paying transaction fees, securing the network through staking, and pricing in-game asset trades, is what WEMADE is selling to U.S. and U.K. users who could not previously settle WEMIX trades in dollars through a major Western exchange. Inside MIR4 and sister games, players use WEMIX to acquire in-game currency and items that can be traded on external exchanges, the Korea Times has reported. That gives the Western listing an immediate practical use case on top of any speculative flow. WEMIX regional pricing pages for the U.K. and other Kraken markets already carried token rates at the time the listing went live.

Why a Korean Token Needed a U.S. Exchange

The Kraken listing is the first major Western exchange to clear WEMIX for trading after two successive removals from Korean venues, the only home market where the token had a large retail base. The Digital Asset Exchange Alliance, a five-member coalition of Korea’s biggest crypto exchanges, has now delisted WEMIX twice in three years.

Event First removal Second removal
Announced November 24, 2022 May 2, 2025
Trading suspended December 8, 2022 3 a.m. on June 2, 2025
Withdrawals ended Not specified in source July 2, 2025
Stated reason “Issues with circulation disclosure” “Insufficient” explanatory materials; unresolved credibility and security concerns
Token was relisted in Korea afterward Yes, beginning in February 2023 No

The trigger for the second removal was a four-day delay in disclosing a March 4, 2025 hack. WEMADE said roughly 8.65 million WEMIX tokens had been drained from its Play Bridge service after a “malicious external attack,” with the stolen tokens then worth around 9 billion won at market prices. DAXA said the explanation lacked a cause-of-failure breakdown and a concrete compensation plan. By the time the alliance announced its decision, WEMIX was trading at 473 won on Bithumb, down 62% in twenty-four hours. A timeline of the second Korean delisting places the announcement on May 2, 2025.

The company said at the time it “remains firmly committed to Wemix and its blockchain business” and would “actively pursue various initiatives, including additional listings on global exchanges.” The Kraken slot is the first material answer to that promise. WEMADE has said it plans to keep pursuing other major global venues beyond Kraken.

WEMADE’s Antitrust Counterpunch Is Still in Court

The Western listing does not close WEMADE’s running battle with DAXA. WEMADE filed an antitrust complaint with the Korea Fair Trade Commission alleging that the alliance had worked together to take WEMIX off the five major Korean exchanges, according to the antitrust and CEO-acquittal coverage. A related injunction against the 2025 delisting has been reported as having failed. The same complaint frames the delisting as collusion rather than a flawed disclosure, a far more aggressive narrative. The complaint remains pending, with no public decision from the KFTC at the time of the Kraken listing.

A separate thread has begun to clear a different name. The Seoul Southern District Court found WEMADE’s former CEO, Jang Hyun-guk, not guilty on July 15, 2025, of charges that he had manipulated the supply of the WEMIX token between February and October 2022. Prosecutors said the period in question covered WEMADE sales of tokens worth more than $200 million. The prosecution may still appeal, leaving the regulatory side questions open even as the criminal case against the former CEO begins to close.

What Holders Get, and What’s Still Missing

What the Kraken seat gives users is a USD-denominated order book against one of the best-known Western brands in crypto. Kraken, founded in 2011, says its clients trade more than 600 digital assets and six national currencies including USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, CHF and AUD, per the company’s own statements. For users in the regions Kraken now serves, this is the first route to holding or trading WEMIX with a U.S. compliance posture. The WEMIX Foundation, the entity directly managing the token, said in its press materials that it plans to “further improve accessibility” through additional listings on other major exchanges. The foundation framed the Kraken slot as the first of those stops.

Aligning with partners who share our commitment to compliance and security is paramount. Given Kraken’s reputation, we are honored to collaborate with them as we scale our market reach, establish a strategic foothold in the U.S. (the world’s largest financial market) alongside other key Western regions, and evolve into a truly global blockchain ecosystem.

Shane Kim, the CEO of WEMIX and a vice president of WEMADE, said those words in the company’s July 7, 2026 announcement of the listing. The source of the quote is WEMADE’s press materials distributed through GlobeNewswire. The statement that preceded the listing captured the company’s pivot toward Western compliance and exchange access.

What the Kraken slot does not yet give users is the rest of Kraken’s product line. The exchange explicitly held Instant Buy and in-app trading back until order book depth builds, with Kraken’s own gateway requiring a sufficient number of buyers and sellers in the WEMIX/USD order book. Holders who want to convert balances to local currency outside Kraken now have additional access, including through Kraken’s crypto-cash-out expansion with MoneyGram. The new USD pair is the venue through which WEMIX is currently priced at Western-compliance depth, per the company’s own statement.

Frequently Asked Questions

When and how can I trade WEMIX on Kraken?

WEMIX funding and spot trading went live on Kraken at the start of trading on July 7, 2026, against a USD pair. Instant Buy and in-app trading are gated behind Kraken’s standard liquidity threshold and will open once the order book deepens, per the exchange.

What was the February 2025 WEMIX ecosystem hack?

A separate hack on WEMADE’s services in February 2025 drained around $6.1 million, according to FinanceFeeds, which covered the broader WEMIX legal saga. That was followed by the larger March 4, 2025 Play Bridge attack that drained roughly 8.65 million WEMIX tokens, worth around 9 billion won at the time.

Who is Jang Hyun-guk, and what did the court rule?

Jang Hyun-guk was WEMADE’s former CEO when prosecutors alleged he had misled investors about the supply of the WEMIX token between February and October 2022, a period in which WEMADE sold tokens worth more than $200 million. The Seoul Southern District Court found him not guilty of those charges on July 15, 2025. The prosecution may still appeal, per FinanceFeeds’ coverage.

What is StableNet?

StableNet is what WEMADE calls Korea’s first dedicated Layer-1 blockchain for Korean-won-backed stablecoins. It runs alongside the WEMIX3.0 chain and is being developed with infrastructure partners that include Chainlink, Chainalysis and CertiK, per WEMADE’s July 7, 2026 press materials.

Will WEMIX return to Korean exchanges?

Not on the books anytime soon. The Digital Asset Exchange Alliance removed WEMIX from Korean venues on June 2, 2025, and final withdrawals were disabled on July 2, 2025. WEMADE’s separate antitrust complaint against the alliance with the Korea Fair Trade Commission is pending, but the token has not been relisted in Korea.
