iPhone 18 Pro Hits $1,199 and Pays the $1,100 Bet

Apple priced the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199, paying Polymarket’s $1,100 bet while missing the $1,200 line that later drew more wagers.

Apple priced the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199, a $100 jump that clears the $1,100 line Polymarket bettors had slammed to 90%. The print landed on September 9, one dollar under the $1,200 mark that later drew more money than the winning side.

That is a smaller hike than the $250 to $300 some analysts had put on the 256GB Pro after June’s Mac and iPad increases. It is also the number Bank of America Securities had already built into its average selling price for the Pro and Pro Max.

Bettors Went From 47% to 90% in a Week

The price market opened on Polymarket on June 23, 2026, at 8:51 p.m. ET, three days before Apple moved Mac and iPad tags. By June 26, the chance the standard iPhone 18 Pro would launch over $1,100 sat at 90%, up 43 points from 47% a week earlier. The chance it would clear $1,200 was only 33%.

Those contracts settle on the pre-tax U.S. launch price of the standard Pro, taken from Apple’s own store or U.S. retail on the first official day. Higher storage does not count. If Apple had not shipped a Pro by March 31, 2027, every line would have resolved No.

HOW THE $1,100 BET GOT MADE

  1. June 17, 2026: Tim Cook, then Apple’s chief executive, says iPhone price increases are unavoidable as memory costs spike.
  2. June 23, 2026: Polymarket opens a U.S. launch-price market on the iPhone 18 Pro, with buckets from $1,000-plus up through $1,300-plus.
  3. June 25, 2026: Apple raises Mac, iPad, Vision Pro, HomePod, and Apple TV prices and says it has reached the point where it must start passing costs through.
  4. June 26, 2026: The $1,100-plus side trades at 90%, up from 47% a week earlier, while $1,200-plus sits at 33%.
  5. September 9, 2026: Apple announces the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299, both with 256GB as the base.

Industry notes in June still pointed to an early September launch, and bettors had priced a 96% chance Apple would actually put an iPhone 18 on stage. The Pro models arrived on that calendar. The cheap new phone did not.

One Dollar Under $1,200

A $1,199 ticket pays every contract written above $1,100 and $1,150. It pays nothing above $1,200. On the live book, the $1,100-plus contract at 99 cents is treated as done, while $1,200-plus trades at 0.4 cents. The window for a formal resolve still runs to March 31, 2027.

More dollars sat on the losing line. The $1,200-plus bucket has $25,634 in volume. The $1,100-plus bucket has $14,712. Across five thresholds, the event has turned over $80,020 since June 23.

POLYMARKET ON THE IPHONE 18 PRO

Threshold June 26 odds Now Volume
$1,000+ n/a 100% $2,317
$1,100+ 90% 99% $14,712
$1,150+ n/a 100% $21,448
$1,200+ 33% <1% $25,634
$1,300+ n/a 1% $15,909

The June 90% crowd got the direction right and the ceiling wrong. Jeff Pu had put a $250 to $300 hike on the table, which would have pushed a $1,099 phone into the $1,349 to $1,399 band and paid $1,200-plus. TrendForce, closer to the event, had already walked that back toward $100 after costing a 256GB Pro’s memory at nearly 400% above the year before.

WHERE THE $100 CALLS BEAT THE $300 CALLS

  • Bank of America: Raised average selling price forecasts by $100 on the Pro and Pro Max and left the base iPhone and Air unchanged.
  • TrendForce: Pointed to a retail increase of about $100 once memory costs for a 256GB Pro were nearly 400% higher than a year earlier.
  • Jeff Pu: Held a $250 to $300 hike, which would have put the base Pro in the $1,349 to $1,399 range and paid the $1,200-plus side.

Apple split the difference in public before it split it on the price list. It moved every other product first, then put a $100 step on the phone that actually funds the company.

What the iPhone 18 Pro Costs in the U.S.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 (U.S.) for 256GB, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299 for the same storage. Both are $100 above the iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max at $1,199. Preorders opened at 5 a.m. PT on September 12. Phones go on sale on September 18.

Apple is selling 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB on both sizes, the first time 2TB has sat on the smaller Pro as well as the Max. Finishes are black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Inside is the A20 Pro, built on a 2-nanometer process, with a vapor chamber Apple says has three times the surface area of the iPhone 17 Pro unit.

IPHONE 18 PRO AND PRO MAX U.S. PRICES

Storage iPhone 18 Pro iPhone 18 Pro Max
256GB $1,199 $1,299
512GB $1,399 $1,499
1TB $1,799 $1,899
2TB $2,399 $2,499

The 512GB step is $200. The 1TB step is $400 more than that, and 2TB adds another $600, so a fully loaded Pro Max is $2,499. Apple Trade In posts $175 to $885 for an iPhone 13 or later, and select carriers will give up to $1,200 toward a Pro or Pro Max for an iPhone 14 or later in any condition. Those trade-in credits on Pro models are doing more work this year, because the sticker moved and the cheapest new iPhone on the fall stage is still a Pro.

The Memory Crunch Apple Called Unavoidable

Cook spent June telling buyers the bill was coming. He called the memory spike a hundred-year flood and said the company had been eating the cost for as long as it could.

Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable. We’re doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable.

Tim Cook, then chief executive of Apple, June 2026

On June 25 the company put that into the price list. Apple said the rapid expansion of AI data centers had created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage, and that it had “never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly.” It added that it had “reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products, including today’s increases for iPad and Mac.”

The iPhone was left alone that day. Everything around it was not.

WHAT APPLE RAISED ON JUNE 25

  • MacBook Neo: Entry price moved from $599 to $699.
  • MacBook Air: The 512GB model moved from $1,099 to $1,299.
  • MacBook Pro: The 14-inch 1TB model moved from $1,699 to $1,999, a $300 step, three times the later iPhone hike.
  • iPad Air: The 128GB model moved from $599 to $749.
  • iPad Pro: The 11-inch 256GB Wi-Fi model moved from $999 to $1,199, matching the new iPhone 18 Pro floor.

The MacBook Pro’s $300 jump is the scare the iPhone never delivered. Bettors who treated the June Mac list as a preview of a $1,299 Pro were reading the wrong product. Apple used the Mac and iPad to test what the market would bear, then protected the phone with a $100 step and a thick trade-in offer.

No Cheap New iPhone Until Spring

Apple split the 2026 iPhone launch. The standard iPhone 18 and the 18e are slated for spring 2027, so anyone who wants a new numbered iPhone this autumn pays Pro money or buys an older model. Apple also lifted prices on the iPhones it still sells by $100, and the iPhone Air moved from $999 to $1,099.

That is the quiet half of the $1,199 story. The June 90% bet was about the Pro. The shelf behind it moved too, so the gap between a leftover Air and a new Pro is only $100, and there is no new $799 or $899 Apple phone to absorb people who refuse the hike.

THE FALL IPHONE SHELF

  • New Pro floor: iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199, iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299, on sale September 18.
  • Folded option: iPhone Duo from $1,999, with preorders on October 16 and availability on October 23.
  • Older stock: Prior iPhones still on sale, each $100 higher, and the Air at $1,099.

The $1,999 Duo is the number that actually drew the anger after the September 9 event. Replies treated $2,000 for a folding phone as the insult, while $1,199 for a slab Pro read as a $100 shrug. The prediction market had spent the summer obsessing over the shrug.

Shorter Lead Times Than Last Fall

Jefferies told clients that delivery lead times for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in six markets were much shorter year on year after preorders opened on September 12. The firm called that a reliable indicator of weak sales, and pointed to last year’s longer waits on the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 as the opposite tell.

A $100 hike that undercut the fear trade can still be a $100 hike that buyers delay. Carrier credits of up to $1,200 on an iPhone 14 or later wipe the new sticker for anyone willing to sign a term sheet. Buyers paying cash see the $1,199 number with no offset, and they do not get a new non-Pro iPhone as a landing spot until spring.

Preorders have been open since September 12. The phones arrive in stores on September 18. The $1,100-plus shares are worth about a dollar. The $1,200-plus shares are not.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does the Polymarket iPhone 18 Pro Price Market Settle?

It pays Yes if the standard iPhone 18 Pro’s pre-tax U.S. launch price is at or above the listed threshold, using the lowest full standard configuration with no extra storage, accessories, or services, as posted on the official Apple Store or U.S. retail on the first official day. If Apple had not released the phone by March 31, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. ET, every threshold would have resolved No, and a consensus of credible reporting can be used if the store listing is unclear.

How Much Is Apple Upgrade for iPhone 18 Pro?

Apple Upgrade, a U.S. lease through Klarna, lists a typical payment of $34.99 a month for 24 months on an iPhone 18 Pro 256GB priced at $1,199, or $49.99 a month for a 12-month term, before tax and before any trade-in. The first payment is due about 30 days after the phone ships or is ready for pickup, and a trade-in can cut the monthly amount.

When Does iPhone 18 Pro Go on Sale, and Where?

Preorders opened at 5 a.m. PT on September 12, and the phones go on sale on September 18 in more than 65 countries and regions, including the United States, China, India, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Brazil. Apple then adds 20 more countries on September 25.

What Colors Does the iPhone 18 Pro Come In?

Apple is shipping both Pro sizes in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy, with burgundy listed as the new finish. Glacier is the light blue option, and the same four colors cover the Pro and the Pro Max.
