KuCoin’s Mega Prize Pool Festival Lands as Its US Market Shuts for Good
KuCoin’s 5 million USDT livestream festival launched days before a federal court permanently barred the exchange from the United States.
KuCoin is offering up to 5,000,000 USDT in prizes to anyone willing to watch livestreams and tap through a checklist of daily tasks on its app. The Live Viewer Festival runs on daily lucky draws, handing out slivers of Bitcoin and Ether, futures trial funds, tokens, and occasionally an iPhone or a PlayStation 5.
One day after the festival opened, a federal court in Manhattan permanently barred KuCoin’s operator from the United States. It is one of at least three prize-money livestream campaigns the exchange has run since mid-February, two of them overlapping in April, while the door to its old American business closed for good.
How the Live Viewer Festival Actually Pays Out
KuCoin’s own announcement of the promotion keeps the mechanic simple: watch and comment to earn daily lucky draw entries. The catch sits in the app version. Anyone running a build older than 4.14.0 cannot take part at all.
Winners do not pick their prize. The daily draw hands out fixed slices such as 0.001 BTC, 0.001 ETH, a 1,000 USDT futures position airdrop, or 1,200 units of a token called XL1. Streamers who host the broadcasts are shut out of these viewer prizes entirely. They compete under a separate set of rules.
- Update the KuCoin app to version 4.14.0 or newer before the event window opens.
- Open the Live tab from the app’s bottom navigation bar.
- Watch a stream or post a qualifying comment to log that day’s task.
- Each finished task earns one entry into that day’s lucky draw.
- Winners get paid within 14 business days of the event’s close, usually as spot tokens or time-limited futures funds.
KuCoin runs spot, margin, and futures trading, with a mobile terminal that layers basic charting alongside the new Live tab. The same app carries the exchange’s spot listings, the kind this site walked through in reading the CAP to BIF token listing calculator. Folding a lottery into that same app keeps people opening it every day, whether or not they plan to trade.
The Festival Has Run Three Times Since February
The 5,000,000 USDT round is not a one-off. KuCoin has fired off a string of nearly identical campaigns since its Live feature debuted in mid-February, each with its own headline number and its own dates.
| Campaign | 2026 Window | Headline Pool | Notable Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| KuCoin Live launch event | Feb 16 to Mar 15 | Over 1,000,000 USDT | Introduced the Live tab alongside a streamer launchpad plan |
| Live Viewer Festival | Mar 29 to Apr 26 | 5,000,000 USDT | BTC, ETH, futures airdrops, and XL1 tokens on offer |
| Live Viewer Festival, second round | Apr 12 to May 10 | 2,500,000 USDT | Opened two weeks before the first round closed, running both at once |
| Later round | Promoted on X, undated | 600,000 USDT | Advertised straight to KuCoin’s own followers |
For two weeks in April, KuCoin ran two separate multi-million-dollar draws in parallel. KuCoin later promoted a further 600,000 USDT round using the identical watch-and-comment mechanic.
A Permanent Ban Landed One Day Into the Festival
On March 30, 2026, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York entered a consent order against Peken Global Limited, the Turks and Caicos company that runs KuCoin, permanently blocking the firm from letting US participants trade directly on its platform unless it registers as a foreign board of trade. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) detailed the permanent injunction in its own release, adding that Peken Global agreed to a $500,000 civil penalty.
Regulators did not pursue disgorgement, citing the company’s cooperation in the investigation and in a parallel criminal case. No foreign board of trade registration has been filed since.
The ruling converted what had been described as a two-year US exit into something closer to permanent. KuCoin’s most lucrative regulated market stays shut regardless of how the compliance picture improves elsewhere, unless it takes the registration step it has so far skipped.
BC Wong Signed Both Chapters
The CFTC order followed a much larger reckoning. In January 2025, Peken Global pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court to one count of operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business, agreeing to pay more than $297 million in fines and forfeitures, split between a $112.9 million criminal fine and $184.5 million in forfeited fees.
For years, KuCoin avoided implementing required anti-money laundering policies designed to identify criminal actors and prevent illicit transactions.
Danielle Sassoon, then the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said that when the plea deal was announced. Prosecutors said KuCoin operated without meaningful identity checks until at least July 2023, despite serving roughly 1.5 million American customers and collecting more than $184 million in fees from them.
According to Lexology, KuCoin’s chief executive, BC Wong, entered that guilty plea on behalf of the company. Two of KuCoin’s founders, Michael Gan and Eric Tang, left the business entirely as part of the deal, with no further role in its management, according to the Department of Justice, which laid out the guilty plea and exit terms. Wong stayed. He was named CEO in 2025, and KuCoin’s own company profile now credits him with reaffirming its commitment to security and regulatory compliance.
Binance Wrote the Playbook KuCoin Is Chasing
KuCoin is not inventing livestream gamification. Binance built a similar feature, called Live Trading, into its Binance Square platform, letting verified creators share commission from live trading sessions with viewers who copy their trades.
Analysts at Cryptobriefing wrote that the move puts pressure on rivals to build their own social trading tools, noting that Bybit, OKX, and Bitget have all invested in copy trading without tying it to livestreaming at this scale, and predicting competitors would follow within quarters rather than years.
Binance still dwarfs KuCoin by reach. Binance reports more than 270 million registered users across upwards of 180 countries, while KuCoin’s own profile lists more than 41 million users worldwide, according to data aggregator CoinMarketCap. Attention is scarce, and KuCoin is spending real money to buy a slice of it.
How Much of the 5,000,000 USDT Prize Pool Actually Gets Paid Out?
KuCoin sets its own ceiling, its own task list, and its own draw odds, and nothing in the public record shows how many people actually split the pool. The exchange confirms only the headline number, the app version required, and a 14-business-day payment window. What any single participant can realistically expect to win stays inside KuCoin’s own systems.
- What we know: KuCoin alone sets each round’s prize ceiling, task list, and eligibility window, with no independent audit of the payout.
- What we know: The same operator, Peken Global Limited, is under a permanent US trading injunction and a $297 million settlement from the same eighteen-month stretch.
- What’s unconfirmed: Whether the 5,000,000 USDT ceiling from the March to April round was ever fully claimed.
- What’s unconfirmed: How many entrants split each day’s draw, so no public per-user odds exist.
- What’s unconfirmed: Whether the overlapping March and April rounds pull from one marketing budget or two.
KuCoin has not said whether the 600,000 USDT round promoted on its own account draws from a fresh budget or a leftover share of the two pools that came before it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is KuCoin still legal to use from the United States in 2026?
No. A federal court permanently enjoined KuCoin’s operator, Peken Global Limited, from serving US participants in March 2026, converting an earlier two-year withdrawal into an indefinite ban. Accounts accessed from a US IP address get restricted, and holders are expected to move funds to a registered US exchange or a self-custody wallet rather than keep trading on KuCoin.
How is KuCoin Live different from Binance’s livestream trading feature?
KuCoin Live rewards viewers directly through lucky draws for watching streams and commenting. Binance’s Live Trading instead pays verified creators with at least 1,000 followers on Binance Square up to half the trading fees generated when followers copy their on-stream trades, and Binance Square counts more than 35 million monthly active users on its own.
How many users does KuCoin have worldwide?
More than 41 million, according to the exchange’s own profile on data aggregator CoinMarketCap, spread across more than 200 countries. Binance, by comparison, reports over 270 million registered users, a gap that helps explain why KuCoin leans so heavily on prize-driven campaigns to hold attention.
Can KuCoin livestream hosts win the same prizes as viewers?
No. Streamers apply separately through the app’s camera icon and compete under their own rules and reward pools, such as the streamer launchpad plan tied to KuCoin Live’s February launch, rather than entering the viewer-facing daily draws.
