Xbox Games Showcase 2026 put console exclusives back at the center of Microsoft’s gaming pitch. Microsoft said Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be Xbox console exclusives, and it added that those exclusives are not timed. The same show listed Halo: Campaign Evolved for PlayStation 5, Steam, PC, cloud and Game Pass, so the new platform line is selective.

Microsoft used the June 7 show to pair returning franchises with new platform labels. Halo got a modernized remake with new missions, Gears got its first gameplay demo, Fable got a release date, and the anniversary hardware got a translucent green shell. The event also brought partner reveals from Atlus, Team NINJA and other studios.

Exclusives Led the Return Pitch

Microsoft’s recap said the event reinforced its mission to bring players games, show the future of play and demonstrate the return of Xbox. Microsoft put those claims inside the full showcase announcement list, then attached the console exclusive label to Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution.

The company also said not timed exclusives, and said games already announced for multiplatform release would keep that plan. Selected first-party games now carry the console exclusive label. Already announced multiplatform releases keep their platform lists.

The first-party slate around that line leaned on familiar names. Microsoft listed new looks or reveals for Senua, Spyro: A Realm Beyond, DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations, Fable, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Minecraft Dungeons II, State of Decay 3, Clockwork Revolution and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ experience. Gears of War: E-Day then received a dedicated Direct with a deeper look at story, gameplay and the series’ history.

Platform Rules Split by Game

The access details changed by title. Microsoft did not apply one platform rule to every first-party game at the showcase. The two titles it explicitly named as console exclusives still carried PC, cloud and subscription language in their published access lines.

The E-Day gameplay and launch details put Gears on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Xbox Play Anywhere and Steam, with Game Pass Ultimate day one. Clockwork Revolution’s showcase post lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Game Pass, Xbox Play Anywhere and Steam.

For pre-show context, this site covered the June 7 showcase preview and the pre-show storefront leak roundup. Those links are related reading. The platform labels above come from Microsoft’s post-show material.

Microsoft used the term Xbox console exclusive. It also left PC and Steam visible in the same official access lines for the two games. That wording keeps the console boundary separate from the wider PC and subscription push.

Which Games Still Reach PlayStation?

Halo carried the clearest PlayStation line. Halo Studios gave Halo launch and edition details that set Halo: Campaign Evolved for July 28, 2026, with early access beginning July 23 for Premium Edition and Collector’s Edition owners. Pre-orders are available through Xbox, Steam, PlayStation and HaloWaypoint.

The remake includes Operation: METEORITE, a new three-mission story arc with Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson aboard a Covenant research vessel. Halo Studios said the game supports cross-play and cross-progression across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam and PlayStation 5. It will be available day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

State of Decay 3 widened the PlayStation side of the show. Undead Labs’ game is listed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Game Pass, Xbox Play Anywhere, Steam and PlayStation 5, with a 2027 launch. Creative Director Kevin Patzelt said everything shown in the State of Decay 3 trailer came from the game, with no CGI.

Older Names Filled the Calendar

Fable returned with a new story trailer and a February 23, 2027 release date. Playground Games introduced Isabel, the Hero of Wraithmarsh, played by Hayley Atwell, and teased the return of Jack of Blades. The Premium Edition gets early access beginning February 18.

Spyro also returned. Toys for Bob announced Spyro: A Realm Beyond, which Microsoft described as the first completely original Spyro game in almost 20 years. State of Decay 3, Minecraft Dungeons II and Senua gave the first-party side more dated or future-year slots.

The partner slate added more reveals and release windows:

  • Persona 6 received a world premiere teaser from Atlus, while Persona 4 Revival received a February 18, 2027 release date.
  • METRO 2039 showed its first gameplay trailer and was listed for February 2027.
  • Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember was announced by Team NINJA for early 2027.
  • Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse received an October 15 release date.

Other dated items included DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations on July 7, Minecraft Dungeons II on September 29, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy on August 27, and Valor Mortis on September 24, 2026. Microsoft also listed Where Winds Meet as available on Xbox during the showcase, with a Hidden Mountain expansion arriving July 2026.

Microsoft’s Filing Showed Gaming Declines

The financial context sits in Microsoft’s Form 10-Q for the quarterly period ended March 31, 2026. In More Personal Computing, Microsoft said gaming revenue decreased $380 million or 7% for the three months ended March 31, 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, driven by declines in Xbox content and services and Xbox hardware. That line appears in the quarterly gaming revenue breakdown.

  • Xbox content and services revenue decreased 5% on a prior year comparable that benefited from strong first-party content performance.
  • Xbox hardware revenue decreased 33% driven by lower volume of consoles sold.
  • For the nine months ended March 31, 2026, gaming revenue decreased $1.1 billion or 6%.
  • For the same nine-month period, Xbox content and services revenue decreased 3%, offset in part by growth in Xbox Game Pass.

The same filing defines gaming as Xbox hardware and Xbox content and services. That definition includes first- and third-party content, in-game content, Xbox Game Pass and other subscriptions, Xbox Cloud Gaming, advertising and other cloud services. The showcase repeated those buckets through its game access lines.

The Green Console Made Nostalgia Physical

Microsoft also used the show to announce the Xbox 25th anniversary collection. The the anniversary console and controller announcement describes the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition and Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition as translucent OG Green, inspired by the original Xbox console.

The console brings a translucent design to Xbox Series X for the first time, according to Microsoft. It has 1 TB of storage, a green lit X, an Xbox 25th Anniversary logo on the front and design elements tied to classic hardware. The controller uses the original ABXY colors and bumpers that honor the black and white buttons on the original Duke controller.

The console and controller will be sold together in select markets as a limited edition collection in November. Microsoft said the controller will also be available separately. Pricing and preorder availability at select retailers will be shared later.

Readers following the platform debate can also revisit the earlier exclusivity strategy report. The event ended with both parts in view: selected console exclusives for two first-party games, and separate first-party releases that still list PlayStation 5, Steam, PC, cloud and Game Pass.
