Behaviour Interactive marked Dead by Daylight’s 10th anniversary on Sunday, June 14, 2026, with a fan event in Montreal’s Old Port and a Year 10 broadcast that mapped out the next two years of content for the asymmetric horror game. The 10th anniversary show ran for more than an hour and a half, according to IGN’s full breakdown of the broadcast, and used the occasion to confirm a 2027 graphics overhaul, a 2027 movie shoot, official modding tools, and a string of licensed crossovers.

The arc the studio laid out is unusual for a live-service game this old. There is no sequel on the way. There is, instead, a long list of commitments for the existing game. Devs will spend the rest of 2026 releasing a new Killer, a new community-built chapter, and a small wave of pop-culture skins, then drop a visual overhaul, modding tools, and a Blumhouse-produced film shoot into 2027, per the studio’s official event schedule and party details and the official 10th anniversary site. The day-after read is that Behaviour is treating the next two years of Dead by Daylight as one bet, taken all at once.

The Blumhouse Movie Has a Director Now

The broadcast opened with the Dead by Daylight film, the long-rumoured adaptation being produced by Behaviour Interactive and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The screenplay by Alexandre Aja and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is complete, the studio said, and the project now has a director: Thordur Palsson, the Icelandic filmmaker behind Netflix’s The Valhalla Murders (2020) and the feature The Damned, which hit theaters in early 2025, according to Variety’s report on the hire.

Behaviour Interactive executive vice president Stephen Mulrooney joined Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum on stage to make the announcement, and Palsson appeared remotely. He framed the assignment as an emotional one, not a slasher one. The interview, published by Variety, also notes that Palsson is repped by Sayle Screen, CAA, Sycamore Media and Jackoway Tyerman.

For me, the main thing is capturing the feeling of playing Dead by Daylight. The main thing is I want to capture the feeling of looking over your shoulder. I want to capture the dread, the tension, the fear of what’s waiting for you in The Fog.

Palsson said it in a statement carried by IGN. The film is expected to begin filming in 2027, IGN reports, and will draw on game locations including The MacMillan Estate and Greenville.

The Killer and Survivor Roadmap Through 2027

Five named drops now sit on the public calendar: the Jason Voorhees Killer, the new original Survivor Shane Wiigwaas, the community-built Chorus of Sin chapter, a Terrifier chapter built around Art the Clown, and a 2027 chapter drawn from the spin-off The Casting of Frank Stone. The table below lays them out.

Chapter Release window Type Headliner
Dead by Daylight: Jason June 16, 2026 Licensed Killer Jason Voorhees
Dead by Daylight: The Life Road June 25, 2026 Original Survivor Shane Wiigwaas (Dallas Goldtooth)
Dead by Daylight: Chorus of Sin August 25, 2026 Original chapter, community-developed New Killer and Survivor (TBA)
Dead by Daylight: Terrifier November 2026 Licensed Killer Art the Clown
Dead by Daylight: The Casting of Frank Stone March 2027 Licensed chapter, narrative tie-in Frank Stone

The list, drawn from IGN, butwhytho’s broadcast recap, and MMORPG.com, opens with the franchise’s first Indigenous Survivor. Shane Wiigwaas, voiced by actor Dallas Goldtooth, is described as a former lawyer turned road-wandering community helper, and lands ten days after Jason hits the public build.

Chorus of Sin follows in late August as the first chapter the studio built entirely in collaboration with its community through its Grimoire initiative, a process the team described in the official ten-year retrospective from the studio as placing “the direction of a brand-new Chapter entirely in the players’ hands.” The Terrifier chapter, with Damien Leone’s Art the Clown in the Killer seat, then arrives in November 2026, per MMORPG.com. The Frank Stone adaptation, which extends the 2024 spin-off game, lands in March 2027.

Fan-Requested Franchises Finally Crash The Fog

The 10th anniversary broadcast leaned hard into licensed cosmetics, with the broadcast teases collected and laid out in detail on Bleeding Cool’s anniversary recap. The wave, in the order sources confirmed it, looks like this.

  • Scooby-Doo enters the Fog for the first time, with a Mystery Inc.-themed onesie outfit teased at the show, per butwhytho.
  • Diablo IV’s Lilith lands as a Legendary outfit for The Artist in the new Diablo Collection, set for October 2026.
  • Silent Hill returns: a Legendary outfit for Cheryl Mason turns her into Shimizu Hinako from Silent Hill f, and The Spirit gets a Nurse outfit in 2027.
  • Iron Maiden celebrates its 50th anniversary with a new Eddie Legendary outfit for The Huntress.
  • Ice Nine Kills joins the roster with its own Collection and a new Dead by Daylight-themed track and music video, dropped at the event.
  • The Walking Dead grows with a Glenn Legendary outfit for Rick in August 2026 and a Negan outfit for Rick in 2027.

Behaviour also tied the cosmetics to a real anniversary event. The Black Banquet runs from June 25 to July 16, 2026, and brings party-themed formal wear for Killers and Survivors, IGN reports. A separate desert-themed Sunflesh Collection will roll out through a future Rift, the same Bleeding Cool piece notes.

A Graphics Overhaul for a Ten-Year-Old Engine

The single largest piece of work Behaviour announced is the 2027 visual overhaul. It is also the most consequential. The studio framed the broadcast as a soft launch of what it plans to ship, and the work is bigger than any single chapter, mode, or licensed skin. The headline is that the game, originally released in 2016, will be reworked from the rig up.

What the overhaul covers, per IGN and the broadcast: character model reworks, expanded animation capabilities, better hair, and more realistic facial animations for every Killer and Survivor. New voice lines for many of the original characters are being recorded and will roll in over time. Maps and environments are getting the same treatment, with enhanced lighting, shading, textures, improved Fog and Mist effects, and a stronger on-screen presence for The Entity.

The numbers Behaviour has been sitting on for the broadcast came from the studio’s own ten-year post. The roster now stands at 51 Survivors (52 if you count Baermar) and 41 Killers, with 10 years of licensed and original releases behind it. The 2016 launch roster was three Killers (The Trapper, The Wraith, The Hillbilly) and four Survivors (Dwight Fairfield, Meg Thomas, Claudette Morel, Jake Park).

  • 10 years since launch
  • 51 Survivors, 41 Killers (excluding Legendary outfit variants)
  • 2027 visual overhaul, modding tools, and movie shoot
  • 2027 also brings dynamic weather (light rain, heavy rain, storms) to existing maps
  • 2027 modding tools will let players build maps, modes, and other content

The new feature tucked inside the overhaul is dynamic weather. The broadcast showed light rain, heavy rain, and storms rolling into existing maps, with new environmental sound and character voice lines recorded to react to the change. Senior creative director Dave Richard, quoted in the butwhytho recap, said the goal is “big emotions, big immersion,” and that the team is preserving “the identity and what makes the character iconic” while reworking the rigs underneath.

New Modes and a Sandbox for Modders

The studio used the broadcast to confirm two new modes and a long-asked-for modding layer. 1v1 mode, designed for the game’s competitive scene, ships in early 2027. Zombie Mode, the more ambitious of the two, was shown in very early prototype footage: Survivors try to cure zombies by creating vaccines, and can themselves be zombified, gaining new limitations and abilities, MMORPG.com reports. If enough zombies are cured, the Survivors escape; if all Survivors are zombified, the round ends.

Modding is the bigger shift. Behaviour confirmed it is building a suite of sandboxed modding tools for release in 2027, a move IGN’s broadcast writeup and a GameSpot anniversary recap both flag as the platform play that lets the community build new maps, modes, and content.

The studio was also explicit about what it is not doing. Behaviour has no Dead by Daylight 2 planned, IGN reports, and the broadcast doubled down on that stance in favour of investing in the live game. A new mall map is also on the December 2026 calendar, mixing liminal-space horror with lore for old Survivors, including Dwight, IGN says.

What the Roadmap Quietly Omits

The broadcast covered a lot, but a few pieces are notable for their absence. There is no specific day yet for the Terrifier chapter, no specific month for the visual overhaul, and no release date for the Blumhouse film, only a 2027 start to filming. There is also no sequel on the way, which is the load-bearing decision underneath everything else the studio announced. The next 18 months are the bet.

Here is the calendar the broadcast put on the board.

  1. June 16, 2026: Jason Voorhees releases on all platforms.
  2. June 25, 2026: The Life Road chapter with Shane Wiigwaas, plus the start of the Black Banquet anniversary event.
  3. July 16, 2026: The Black Banquet event ends.
  4. August 2026: Glenn Legendary outfit for Rick Grimes, plus the Chorus of Sin community chapter.
  5. October 2026: Diablo Collection, headlined by Lilith as a Legendary outfit for The Artist.
  6. November 2026: Dead by Daylight: Terrifier chapter with Art the Clown.
  7. December 2026: New mall map, with liminal-space lore for Dwight and other original Survivors.
  8. Early 2027: 1v1 mode launches; Dead by Daylight: The Casting of Frank Stone chapter releases in March 2027.
  9. 2027 (no month): Visual overhaul, dynamic weather, official modding tools, and the start of filming for the Blumhouse film.

Behaviour’s own framing, that the next ten years of Dead by Daylight will be built on the live game rather than a sequel, is what the rest of the calendar is resting on. The next tell is whether the 2027 graphics overhaul, the most expensive commitment on the list, actually lands.
