Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent Lands on PS5, Xbox, and PC
Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Mac for $34.99, the first video game built from the Descent board game.
Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Mac, priced at $34.99. Developer Artefacts Studio and publishers New Tales and Asmodee released the tactical RPG on June 7, 2026, billing it as the first video game adaptation of the Descent universe. The tabletop line it grows from first appeared more than two decades ago.
That long gap is the story here. A franchise that fans had pushed toward screens for years finally has a digital home, and the early reception is split between glowing demo praise and a more cautious launch-week verdict on Steam.
A Tabletop Saga Two Decades in the Making
Fantasy Flight Games published Descent: Journeys in the Dark back in 2005, planting the seeds of the Terrinoth setting on cardboard and dice. The line evolved over the years, culminating in Descent: Legends of the Dark in 2021, a companion-app driven campaign experience.
Despite that pedigree, Terrinoth had never been turned into a proper tactical RPG until now. Heroes of Descent slots into the timeline deliberately, set one year before the events of Legends of the Dark. Artefacts Studio, the Lyon-based team behind The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos, took on the adaptation.
The premise drops players into the troubled lands of Terrinoth, weaving real-time exploration together with turn-based tactical battles. It plays solo or cooperatively, an approach meant to echo the rhythm of a board-game night without the table.

What the Full Adventure Includes
The demo earlier this year only let players poke around the Crypts of Aerendor alone. The full launch build opens the whole campaign, structured for both one-hour sessions and longer cooperative evenings.
Here is what ships in the released version:
- A complete narrative campaign spanning 4 chapters.
- 20 dungeons with varied environments and dialogue that shifts based on the group’s makeup.
- 8 playable heroes, each with their own story, skills, and combat style.
- Online co-op for up to 4 players, with the option to join a game in progress.
- Full English voice acting featuring, among others, Samantha Beart.
Combat sits at the center. Heroes can chain their abilities into synergies with allies, and boss fights lean on positioning, terrain, and special-ability management. The studio describes the system as easy to pick up while leaving room for coordination, the same balance that defines a good tabletop session.
From a Spring Window to a PC Gaming Show Bow
New Tales and Artefacts Studio first revealed the game on February 10, 2026, when it was pencilled in for a Spring 2026 release across PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The eventual launch arrived in June.
Per PC Gamer, the game went live on June 7 during the PC Gaming Show, the kind of showcase slot that puts an indie tactical RPG in front of a broad audience in a single beat. New Tales says the project ran through months of demos and player feedback before crossing the finish line.
If you have been tracking the steady drip of co-op and tactical games arriving on consoles this year, this fits a familiar pattern, much like another tactical title hitting Xbox and PC in recent months.
The Reviews Don’t All Agree Yet
The pre-launch signals were strong. The demo, available since February, drew over 87% positive reviews on Steam, a figure the publishers leaned on heavily in their launch messaging. Longtime Descent fans praised the faithfulness to the board game, while newcomers cited the accessible, cooperative design.
The picture on the live game looks a touch more reserved. At the time the Steam store page was captured, its review label read Mostly Positive, with 71% of 104 user reviews positive. The store was also running a 15% launch discount.
The gap between an enthusiastic demo and a settling launch score is common, and the sample is still small. What it suggests so far is a release landing well without a runaway consensus.
Stats snapshot:
- Demo review rating: over 87% positive on Steam.
- Launch store page: Mostly Positive, 71% across 104 reviews at capture.
- Launch discount: 15% on Steam.
- Price: $34.99 / EUR 34.99 on all platforms.
Why Three Companies Bet on Terrinoth
For Artefacts Studio, the adaptation was a creative tightrope: honoring the source while making something that plays like a real video game. Bruno Chabanel, CEO of Artefacts Studio, framed it as a long-held ambition.
As longtime fans ourselves, it was a huge challenge to adapt the license in a way that stayed true to the essence of Terrinoth while still offering our own interpretation of it. We wanted to capture the unique atmosphere and accessibility of Descent’s universe, and naturally translate them into a true video game experience without ever losing the soul of the original board game.
New Tales backed the project to global release. Cedric Marechal, CEO of New Tales, said the demo feedback confirmed both the game’s potential and players’ attachment to the setting, adding that the team wanted the tabletop community and tactical RPG fans to find a new way into Terrinoth.
From the rights-holder side, the milestone is the format itself. Brian Mulcahy, Head of Franchise Development at Asmodee, put the demand in plain terms.
Seeing the Descent board game world of Terrinoth come to life in a full video game experience is something fans have been asking for over many years.
